General Description:
This role has a hybrid work pattern 3 days a week in our Warsaw office and 2 days remote.
We are seeking a highly experienced Senior General Ledger Accountant to join our newly established Shared Service Centre in Warsaw, Poland. This is a senior hands-on finance role responsible for managing complex general ledger activities, cash-related accounting matters, month-end and year-end close processes, reconciliations, statutory and US GAAP reporting support, and audit readiness across multiple countries. The successful candidate will bring deep technical accounting expertise, sound professional judgment, and strong ownership of end-to-end GL processes in a multinational environment. The role requires proven experience working with SAP, ideally SAP S/4HANA, strong knowledge of US GAAP and local statutory requirements, and the ability to operate effectively in a developing SSC/GBS environment. The incumbent will be expected to partner confidently with stakeholders across Europe, the US, and Asia, drive process discipline and continuous improvement, and contribute to building scalable finance processes as BeOne Medicines continues to expand globally.
Essential Functions of the job:
- Own and execute complex general ledger accounting activities in SAP, including journal entries, accruals, reclassifications, cash-related transactions, intercompany postings, and other recurring and non-recurring entries, ensuring accuracy, completeness, and timely recording in line with closing requirements.
- Lead assigned month-end, quarter-end, and year-end close activities, proactively managing deadlines, resolving accounting issues, and ensuring all responsibilities on the close checklist are completed to a high standard.
- Prepare, review, and take ownership of balance sheet account reconciliations, ensuring adequate supporting documentation, timely resolution of reconciling items, and appropriate escalation of aged or complex items.
- Support US GAAP reporting, local statutory accounting, and statutory audit requirements by preparing analysis, documentation, and reconciliations and by collaborating with internal and external stakeholders.
- Prepare and reconcile monthly payroll accounting entries, related payments, and associated balance sheet accounts, ensuring accurate accounting treatment and timely follow-up on open items.
- Support SOX compliance, internal controls, internal audit, and external audit requests by maintaining strong documentation standards and demonstrating control awareness in daily activities.
- Contribute to the design, implementation, and continuous improvement of accounting policies, procedures, closing processes, and operational standards within the SSC/GBS environment.
- Identify opportunities to improve system efficiency, data quality, and business practices, partnering with finance and cross-functional teams to implement practical and scalable solutions.
- Act as a senior finance point of contact for assigned countries, processes, or topics, providing guidance, addressing complex queries, and ensuring alignment with global finance standards.
- Participate in finance projects, process transitions, system enhancements, and other ad hoc initiatives as required, bringing strong analytical capability, ownership, and a continuous improvement mindset.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business, or a related field, with at least 5–7 years of progressive general ledger/accounting experience in a multinational finance organization; Big 4 and/or healthcare or life sciences experience is considered a strong advantage.
- Demonstrated hands-on ownership of month-end and year-end close activities, balance sheet reconciliations, journal entries, accruals, intercompany accounting, payroll accounting, audit support, and SAP-based accounting processes.
- Solid working knowledge of US GAAP, local statutory accounting requirements, SOX/internal controls, and audit documentation standards in a multinational environment.
- Experience supporting or transitioning general ledger processes into an SSC/GBS environment, including process documentation, stabilization, and continuous improvement activities.
- Strong SAP experience required, preferably SAP S/4HANA, combined with advanced Excel capability and practical knowledge of related finance systems such as Concur, Workday, online banking platforms, and procurement tools.
- Willingness and ability to execute detailed transactional accounting tasks while also bringing a senior-level view on process quality, control discipline, issue resolution, and scalable ways of working.
- Comfortable working in a fast-paced, evolving, and currently developing SSC/GBS environment with a hybrid work model, where priorities may change and structure is still being built.
- Excellent communication skills, cultural sensitivity, and the ability to work effectively with stakeholders across Europe, the US, and Asia.
- Excellent spoken and written English required; additional European languages such as French, German, Italian, Spanish, or Portuguese are considered an asset.
