Internship Position (Digital Signoff Group)

Cadence Design Systems

CORK 01

At Cadence, we hire and develop leaders and innovators who want to make an impact on the world of technology.

Job Overview:

Join Cadence Design Systems as a Software Engineering Intern within the Quantus Insight R&D team (Digital & Signoff Group).

Quantus Insight is a next-generation parasitic analysis and debugging platform used by semiconductor engineers worldwide. Built on a modern architecture with minimal legacy constraints, it provides an exciting environment where interns can contribute to real product development while learning modern software engineering practices.

As an intern, you will work closely with experienced engineers on challenging technical problems involving large-scale datasets, graphical user interfaces, workflow automation, and emerging AI-assisted technologies. We are looking for talented individuals with strong analytical thinking, curiosity, and a passion for solving complex problems.

We're looking for curious problem-solvers with strong analytical thinking skills and a natural aptitude for software engineering. Experience with at least one programming language is required, while experience with modern C++ is a significant advantage but not a prerequisite. Previous knowledge of Electronic Design Automation (EDA) is not required. We value creativity, intellectual curiosity, and the ability to learn quickly more than experience with any specific technology.

What You'll Do

  • Contribute to real product features used by semiconductor design engineers while learning modern software development practices from experienced mentors.
  • Investigate and solve challenging software engineering problems involving large datasets, performance, and usability.
  • Participate in design discussions, code reviews, debugging, testing, and other collaborative engineering activities.
  • Explore automation and AI-driven workflows as part of next-generation engineering tools.

What We're Looking For

Required Qualifications

  • Currently pursuing a Bachelor's, Master's, or PhD degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Mathematics, Physics, Electrical Engineering, or a related technical field.
  • Experience programming in at least one modern programming language through coursework, research projects, personal projects, internships, or open-source contributions.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Curiosity, creativity, and willingness to learn unfamiliar technologies and domains.
  • Good understanding of fundamental programming concepts, algorithms, and data structures.
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills.

Additional Skills and Interests (beneficial but not required):

  • Modern C++ (especially C++17 or newer).
  • Linux or Unix development environments.
  • GUI development, and user experience design.
  • Software architecture, performance optimisation, or multithreaded programming.
  • AI workflows.
  • Electronic Design Automation (EDA), semiconductor design, or related engineering domains.

What Makes Someone Successful in This Role?

We are particularly interested in candidates who:

  • Enjoy solving puzzles and difficult technical challenges.
  • Ask thoughtful questions and dig deeper than the obvious answer.
  • Demonstrate initiative through personal projects, research, competitions, or open-source contributions.
  • Learn quickly and adapt to new technologies.
  • Think critically and approach problems in a structured, analytical way.

We’re doing work that matters. Help us solve what others can’t.
