As a General X-Ray Machine Operator, performs routine diagnostic radiologic procedures within the scope of practice, including imaging of the chest, abdomen, spine, extremities, and skull, while supporting high-quality imaging and safe, efficient patient care.

A PRN caregiver in this position works 4:00pm – 9:00pm (typically roughly up to 12-16 hours per week)

A caregiver who excels in this role will:

  • Perform standard diagnostic radiologic procedures to include Chest, Abdomen, Spine, Extremities and skull within the practitioner's scope of practice.
  • Can operate Computerized and Digital Radiographic equipment.
  • Perform patient exams quickly and efficiently to maximize productivity, patient flow and throughput.
  • Understand the mechanics and technical components of each x-ray resource within the scope of practice.
  • Keep resources inventories properly so that all supplies and equipment are on hand.
  • Understand the computer systems used in the department (i.e. Radiology Information Systems, CCF orders systems, CCF scheduling systems).
  • Can function in other capacities of the Radiology Department.
  • Provide patient care and assistance.
  • Assist the patients to provide them with comfort throughout the visit.
  • Report problems immediately to the Supervisor.
  • Assist in maintaining the flow of patients in and out of the department.
  • Establish and maintain friendly and cooperative relations with those contacted in the course of work.
  • Provide training, supervision, mentoring, and evaluation support for new hires, students, and other clinical learners as assigned.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Minimum qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:

  • Completion of 12 classroom hours of instruction in accordance with the requirements of the State approved facility attended
  • Appropriate clinical training of at least 8 hours with proven competency for the clinical site in area (s) of practice (e.g., Chest, Abdominal, Spine, Extremities, and Skull x-rays)
  • Current State Licensure as a General X-Ray Machine Operator (GXMO)
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) through American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross Certification

Preferred qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:

  • One year of General X-Ray Machine Operator experience

Physical Requirements:

  • Requires standing and walking for extended periods of time.
  • Must be able to assist with lifting patients of varying weight and manipulate equipment daily.

Personal Protective Equipment:

  • Follows Standard Precautions using personal protective equipment as required for procedures.
