Director, Production Safety, School of Film

Reporting to the Dean, School of Film, Television & Media, the Director, Production Safety School of Film provides key leadership support and acts as an expert safety resource for the School of Film, Television, and Media Arts (SOF) on all matters related to the safety of Emerson students in their on- and off-campus productions. The Director will support the SOF faculty and curriculum, ensuring that safety standard operating procedures and policies on SOF productions follow industry standards across all SOF curricular disciplines. The Director will supervise one direct report of a staff member, and supervise student employees who support school production and communications efforts.

ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES

• Responsible for setting and maintaining a healthy safety climate of best practices by all SOF undergraduate and graduate students, including but not limited to researching, revising, and developing policies in concert with the faculty and SOF leadership.
• In collaboration with faculty, oversees all SOF policy matters related to on-campus and off-campus media projects.
• Responsible for delivery of safety lectures & workshops to all incoming SOF first year, second year, and transfer students and as needed for other students.
• Responsible for establishing all department safety protocols across all SOF’s curricular disciplines, including interpersonal safety matters such as intimacy direction, etc. in consultation with the SOF Dean and SOF leadership to reflect industry best practices.
• Engages with co-curricular student organizations and their leaders, ensuring safety on their projects.
• Responsible for the creation of safety videos that reflect best practices in media production.
• Actively engages with production faculty to ensure that safe practices in and outside of the classroom are understood and followed.
• Responsible for overseeing and reviewing all student production submissions through the Production Portal, ensuring required safety, permitting, and insurance information is complete and addressed.
• Collaborates with Risk Management on Certificates of Insurance and with Government & Community Affairs on government and community-related production requirements.
• Serves as a liaison between SOF and other campus areas such as Risk Management, Housing & Residential Education, Student Engagement & Leadership, IT, and other departments as necessary.
• Oversee SOF social media and digital engagement strategy, ensuring content effectively highlights student learning, programs, professional opportunities, and community initiatives.
• Supervise and mentor student employees supporting social media and digital communications.
• Serves as liaison with local non-profits and media arts organizations, Colleges and Universities.
• Perform other duties as assigned by SOF Dean and Co-Chairs.

QUALIFICATIONS – Qualifications are deemed required or preferred and represent what is needed to effectively perform job.

• Bachelor’s Degree in Media Production, Occupational Safety, or relevant field or equivalent work experience required.
• In addition to the above, minimum of 5 years of experience in media production, occupational safety, or related required.
• Experience with safety hazards on file/media production sets required.
• Understanding of risk assessment required.

Compensation: $74,500.00 - $91,350.00 annually, commensurate with experience.
