Job Title: Strategic Planning Supervisor - Behavioral Science

JOB SUMMARY

The Strategic Planning Supervisor - Behavioral Science is an experienced strategist with strong expertise in behavioral science who applies consumer psychology, decision science, and/or behavioral research methodologies to strategic planning challenges in healthcare and pharmaceutical marketing.

This individual brings behavioral science rigor to brand strategy work, understanding how customers actually make decisions. They conduct and interpret behavioral research, translate findings into strategic recommendations, and serve as an internal resource on behavioral science applications.

The Strategic Planning Supervisor serves as both a behavioral science consultant internally and independently executes brand strategy work for assigned accounts with emerging autonomy, mentors junior strategic planning staff in behavioral science principles, and collaborates cross-functionally to strengthen behavioral thinking across strategic initiatives.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Behavioral Science Expertise

  • Applies behavioral science frameworks (behavioral economics, decision science, cognitive psychology) to brand strategy and marketing challenges
  • Conducts primary qualitative research including in-depth interviews, ethnographic studies, and facilitated discussions with healthcare professionals and patients to uncover behavioral drivers and cognitive biases
  • Translates behavioral science findings into actionable marketing strategy and creative direction
  • Analyzes behavioral data to identify patterns, insights, and strategic implications
  • Serves as internal resource and educator on behavioral science principles and applications to healthcare marketing
  • Stays current on behavioral science research, trends, and methodologies

Brand Planning

  • Strong understanding and execution of strategic discipline, agency processes, and pharma compliance requirements
  • Gathers customer dynamics and disease state understanding, synthesizing behavioral insights about how different customer segments make decisions to inform brand strategy
  • Displays effective storytelling skills in written strategy, particularly in translating behavioral science into clear narratives
  • Supports senior strategists and account teams with research capabilities, behavioral insights, and strategic recommendations
  • Develops strong brand strategy work across assigned brands and deliverables under the leadership of more senior team members

Client Management

  • Effectively addresses internal and client questions on the agency’s POV and recommendations.
  • Supports senior team members in client consulting on market research design and analysis

Cross Functional Collaboration

  • Acts as brand team resource on behavioral science with guidance from leadership
  • Partners with creative, medical/scientific, and account teams to integrate behavioral insights into strategy and creative execution
  • Collaborates effectively across functional teams to strengthen behavioral thinking

Talent Management

  • Manage and mentor junior level staff and delegate incoming tasks and assignments as appropriate.

JOB DUTIES / RESPONSIBILITES

- Applies strong understanding of strategic planning fundamentals and behavioral science fundamentals (e.g., decision theory, behavioral economics) to disease state, customer behavior, competitive dynamics, and the science of assigned brands

- Acts as the strategic planning day to day point of contact for internal team on key accounts.

- Understands and effectively utilizes the strategic process and agency structure as well as pharmaceutical marketing guidance and compliance requirements.

- Balances working autonomously and collaboratively with senior internal team members on core accounts.

-Synthesize behavioral insights into clear, compelling narratives that drive strategic decision-making

- Plays an active role in development of core brand strategy deliverables including campaign briefs, positioning target, tactical planning.

- Leads client workshops preparation and comfortably moderate break out groups and capture key takeaways.

- Manages and mentors Strategic Planners and/or Associate Strategic Planners eg, delivering feedback, advising on day-to-day workload.

- Stay current on behavioral science research, trends, and methodologies

- Attends and contributes to internal/client meetings and creates output reports.

- Autonomously leads and owns social listening monitoring and analysis

- Leads market research design, interviewing, insight identification, and reporting.

General

  • Competent in software specific to the client and agency processes including Microsoft Word, Teams, PowerPoint, Excel.
  • Ability to use AI platforms as an accelerant for brand needs and strategic deliverables.
  • Strong working knowledge in market research tools (search databases including SERMO, Datamonitor).
  • Strong working knowledge in social media platforms
  • Strong oral and written communication; articulate, support and begin to drive influence for a strategic point of view internally and externally
  • Active listening and keen attention to detail
  • Strong strategic and analytical skills; leveraging both qualitative insights and data to solve brand challenges
  • Able to work on multiple projects, adhere to timeline and maintain organization.

Behavioral Science & Research

  • Strong foundation in behavioral science, including cognitive psychology, decision science, behavioral economics, and consumer psychology
  • Proficiency in qualitative research methodologies including ethnography, phenomenology, grounded theory, and in-depth interviewing
  • Understanding of quantitative and mixed-methods research approaches and when to apply them
  • Ability to identify behavioral barriers, motivations, habits, and decision drivers.
  • Ability to translate behavioral and research findings into actionable business recommendations.
  • Knowledge of behavioral research frameworks and models
  • The ability to adapt and create bespoke frameworks based in behavioral science, when appropriate
  • Ability to design research that captures behavioral nuance, motivations, barriers, and decision drivers

$90,000 to $120,000
