Quality Engineer - Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS)

Our company is seeking a skilled and detail-oriented Quality Engineer to join our team in Houston, TX. In this role, you will own the quality assurance, structural weld compliance, and engineering documentation processes for grid-scale battery energy storage system (BESS) containers. You will be directly responsible for establishing weld inspection protocols, ensuring compliance with U.S. welding codes, and updating AutoCAD drawings to reflect real-world manufacturing quality updates, material adjustments, and weld change-orders.

This is an immediate-start position open to both Direct Hire and Contract-to-Hire candidates.

Key Responsibilities

• Quality Documentation & AutoCAD Updates: Modify, update, and manage engineering drawings in AutoCAD to accurately reflect manufacturing quality updates, non-conformance corrections, and changes in metal materials or weld types.
• Welding Inspection & Compliance: Develop, implement, and oversee strict weld inspection processes to verify that all structural enclosures meet applicable United States weld quality codes and standards.
• Defect Material Analysis: Troubleshoot fabrication floor quality issues, managing corrections related to varying metal materials, structural integrity, and weld defects.
• Thermal System QA: Verify the quality, fitment, and integration standards of air-cooled or liquid-cooled HVAC systems crucial for BESS thermal management.
• Continuous Improvement: Audit the production floor, manage root-cause analysis for fabrication errors, and update standard operating procedures (SOPs) to prevent repeat quality escapes.

Requirements

Required Qualifications

• Experience: 5 to 7 years of quality or manufacturing engineering experience in heavy container, industrial enclosure, or BESS manufacturing.
• Education: Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering
• Weld Code Expertise: Deep, practical knowledge of U.S. welding codes (e.g., AWS D1.1 or similar structural welding standards) and formal weld inspection methodologies.
• Technical Drafting Skills: Strong proficiency updating fabrication drawings in AutoCAD based on production quality changes and engineering revisions.
• Availability: Must be able to start ASAP in the Houston, TX area.

Preferred Qualifications

• Certified Welding Inspector (CWI) or equivalent quality certification.
• Experience updating or reviewing models and drawings using Creo.
• Familiarity with the integration and quality testing of liquid-cooled or air-cooled HVAC units within industrial enclosures.
