Job Description:
About the Role
HPE Networking is seeking a highly experienced Senior Architect to help define and drive the technical architecture for next-generation data center networking solutions. This role will focus on open networking, SONiC-based systems, AI-ready infrastructure, network automation, cloud-scale architectures, and software-driven networking innovation.
The Senior Architect will work across product management, engineering, hardware, software, and ecosystem teams to translate business and customer requirements into scalable technical architectures and technology roadmaps. The successful candidate will combine deep expertise in data center networking with strong systems thinking, architectural leadership, and the ability to influence technical direction across a global organization.
Key Responsibilities
• Define and drive the technical architecture and long-term technology strategy for HPE's data center networking portfolio, including SONiC-based solutions, open networking platforms, and AI networking infrastructure.
• Lead architectural design and technology decisions spanning networking hardware, network operating systems, cloud-native software, automation frameworks, observability, and management platforms.
• Partner with product management to translate customer, market, and business requirements into scalable architecture and platform capabilities.
• Collaborate closely with engineering teams to establish architectural standards, design principles, performance requirements, and system-level tradeoffs.
• Drive architecture reviews and provide technical leadership across multiple product and engineering teams.
• Evaluate emerging technologies, industry trends, and competitive solutions to identify opportunities for innovation and differentiation.
• Define reference architectures for enterprise, cloud provider, service provider, and AI data center environments.
• Influence roadmap decisions by balancing scalability, reliability, security, operational simplicity, and time-to-market considerations.
• Engage directly with strategic customers and partners to understand complex deployment requirements and validate architectural direction.
• Work across hardware, ASIC, software, security, and systems teams to ensure end-to-end architectural alignment.
• Mentor principal engineers and senior technical leaders while helping build a strong architectural community across the organization.
• Represent HPE Networking in customer briefings, executive reviews, industry forums, standards organizations, and technical conferences as appropriate.
What You'll Bring
• Deep expertise in data center networking technologies, including switching, routing, network operating systems, and large-scale network deployments.
• Strong understanding of open networking architectures, SONiC, Linux-based networking systems, and modern network automation frameworks.
• Experience developing architectures for enterprise, hyperscale cloud, AI cluster, or service provider environments.
• Knowledge of networking silicon, ASIC architectures, packet processing pipelines, and hardware/software interaction models.
• Experience designing highly available, scalable, and secure distributed systems.
• Proven ability to influence engineering, product, and executive stakeholders through technical leadership and architectural vision.
• Strong communication skills with the ability to explain complex technical concepts to both technical and business audiences.
• Experience leading architecture reviews, technical strategy development, and cross-functional technology initiatives.
• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or related field required; advanced degree preferred.
Preferred Qualifications
• Deep hands-on experience with SONiC development, deployment, or ecosystem contributions.
• Experience with AI/ML networking, high-performance computing (HPC), GPU fabrics, or large-scale AI infrastructure.
• Familiarity with cloud-native technologies, Kubernetes, container networking, and microservices architectures.
• Experience with network automation, observability platforms, telemetry, and intent-based networking solutions.
• Participation in industry standards bodies, open-source communities, or networking ecosystem initiatives.
