Job Description Summary:

Compensation: The anticipated hiring range for this position is $62.88–$78.60 per hour (minimum to midpoint). Placement within the range will be determined based on relevant experience, qualifications, internal equity, and applicable compensation practices.

Sign-On Bonus: This position is eligible for a $10,000 sign-on bonus, paid over a two-year commitment: $5,000 following completion of the first year of employment and $5,000 following completion of the second year, subject to applicable taxes and the terms of the sign-on bonus agreement.

The Radiotherapy Technologist delivers safe, accurate, patient-centered radiation therapy in accordance with the Radiation Oncologist’s prescription, approved treatment plan, departmental procedures, applicable regulatory requirements, and MarinHealth standards. The role operates radiation therapy and simulation equipment, verifies treatment parameters and patient positioning, monitors patient response, maintains complete treatment documentation, participates in quality and safety activities, and collaborates closely with Radiation Oncologists, physicists, dosimetrists, nursing, and other members of the care team. The Radiotherapy Technologist is expected to demonstrate sound clinical judgment, timely escalation, technical accuracy, compassionate communication, and MarinHealth C.A.R.E.S. behaviors in every patient and team interaction.

Job Requirements, Prerequisites and Essential Functions:

Job Specifications:

Education:

• Required: Associate degree from an accredited radiation therapy technology program.
• Preferred: Bachelor’s degree in radiation therapy, healthcare, or a related field.

Experience:

• Preferred: Two (2) or more years of Radiation Therapist experience in a progressive radiation oncology environment.
• New graduates who otherwise meet required education, licensure/certification, and demonstrated competency requirements may be considered based on department needs.

License and Certifications:

• American Register of Rad Techs (ARRT) required at hire.
• Therapeutic Radiologic Technology Certification - California Society of Radiologic Technologists (TRTC) required at hire.
• Basic Life Support (BLS) required at hire.
• Integrative Agitation Management (IAM) required within 30 days of hire.

Prerequisite Skills:

• Demonstrated ability to safely and accurately operate radiation treatment and simulation equipment within established scope, policy, and competency requirements.
• Working knowledge of radiation therapy principles, treatment delivery, anatomy and physiology, medical terminology, radiation safety, infection prevention, and applicable clinical procedures.
• Ability to accurately interpret and follow treatment prescriptions, treatment plans, setup instructions, imaging guidance, and documented clinical procedures.
• Demonstrated ability to perform patient identification, positioning, immobilization, localization, imaging, and treatment verification with consistent attention to accuracy and safety.
• Ability to recognize changes in patient condition, treatment-related symptoms, equipment concerns, or variances from the treatment plan and promptly escalate to the appropriate clinical or technical resource.
• Demonstrated commitment to radiation safety and ALARA principles, including adherence to quality assurance, incident-prevention, and emergency/downtime procedures.
• Strong clinical judgment, critical thinking, problem-solving, organization, and time-management skills in a fast-paced patient care environment.
• Ability to document treatment and patient-related information accurately, completely, and in a timely manner in the electronic medical record and other required systems.
• Effective verbal and written communication skills with patients, families, physicians, and interdisciplinary team members, including the ability to provide understandable patient education and compassionate support.
• Ability to collaborate effectively with Radiation Oncologists, physicists, dosimetrists, nursing, and other care-team members and to seek assistance when a situation is outside individual scope or competency.

Duties And Responsibilities:

Essential (Not Modifiable)

• Administer radiation therapy accurately and safely in accordance with the Radiation Oncologist’s prescription, approved treatment plan, established procedures, and verified treatment parameters.
• Perform required patient identification, treatment-site verification, positioning, immobilization, localization, and imaging before and during treatment; stop and escalate when information is inconsistent, incomplete, or unsafe.
• Operate linear accelerators, CT simulation equipment, orthovoltage and other assigned radiation therapy technologies within documented competency and departmental standards.
• Perform CT and clinical simulations, including acquisition of appropriate imaging, patient setup information, measurements, and immobilization devices required for treatment planning.
• Acquire, review, and apply on-board imaging and approved alignment parameters to support precise treatment delivery; collaborate with the Radiation Oncologist, physicist, or dosimetrist when findings require clinical or technical review.
• Verify required treatment-plan information and complete applicable chart/treatment checks before treatment delivery; promptly escalate discrepancies or missing information.
• Participate in equipment and treatment-delivery quality assurance activities and immediately report equipment concerns, unexpected performance, or safety risks according to departmental procedure.
• Monitor patients before, during, and after treatment; recognize and communicate changes in condition, adverse reactions, distress, or treatment-related concerns to the appropriate care-team member.
• Provide clear, compassionate patient and family education regarding treatment processes, expected side effects, self-care, safety, and when to seek additional clinical support, within scope of practice.
• Maintain accurate, complete, and timely documentation of treatment delivery, patient status, variances, communications, and other required information in the electronic medical record and departmental systems.
• Collaborate with Radiation Oncologists, physicists, dosimetrists, nurses, and other interdisciplinary partners to coordinate safe and effective treatment and continuity of care.
• Participate in chart rounds, treatment planning conferences, safety huddles, peer review, quality-improvement activities, and other departmental readiness activities as assigned.
• Adhere to radiation safety requirements, ALARA principles, infection-prevention practices, patient-safety standards, and applicable emergency preparedness and equipment-downtime procedures.
• Identify and promptly escalate treatment variances, near misses, patient-safety concerns, or process breakdowns through appropriate departmental and organizational channels; participate constructively in follow-up and improvement activities.
• Maintain required licensure, certification, annual competencies, education, and training necessary for assigned responsibilities.
• Support orientation and training of Radiotherapy Techs, Radiotherapy Aides, students, or other assigned team members within scope, competency, and departmental expectations.
• Maintain competency to perform applicable Radiotherapy Aide duties when operationally required and within assigned scope.
