Description:
Position Purpose
At Saint Francis Hospital, the Cardiac Surgery Step Down provides intermediate-level care to patients recovering from cardiac surgery, including CABG, valve repair/replacement, and other cardiovascular procedures. The RN will deliver high-quality, patient-centered care while collaborating with a multidisciplinary team to ensure optimal outcomes.
What You Will Do
- Provide direct nursing care to post-operative cardiac surgery patients in a step-down setting
- Monitor and interpret cardiac rhythms, vital signs, and hemodynamic status
- Manage chest tubes, temporary pacing wires, surgical incisions, and IV medications
- Administer medications, including cardiac drips, per physician orders and protocols
- Educate patients and families on recovery, medications, and lifestyle modifications
- Collaborate with physicians, advanced practice providers, and interdisciplinary teams
- Recognize and respond promptly to changes in patient condition
- Maintain accurate and timely documentation in the electronic medical record (EMR)
- Participate in quality improvement and patient safety initiatives
Minimum Qualifications
- Education: Graduate of an accredited college or university affiliated nursing program.
- Licensure: Current Licensure as a Registered Nurse (RN) in Connecticut.
- Certification: BLS (AHA/ARC) required.
- Minimum 1 year of acute care nursing experience (cardiac or critical care preferred)
Preferred Skills
- Education: Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) degree preferred.
- Experience: cardiac step-down, ICU, or telemetry unit
- Certification: ACLS and Stroke Certification preferred.
Position Highlights

- Rotating Every other Weekend/Holiday
