The Position:

Videographer

Job Summary:

The Office of Communications and Marketing (OCM) at Muhlenberg College seeks a creative and engaged video storyteller. This professional will play a key role in highlighting the people, moments, and experiences of the college through dynamic and compelling video storytelling. As part of the communications and marketing team, the videographer will create energetic and inspirational content that promotes the Muhlenberg brand story, supports marketing efforts, and complements the department’s written and visual media.

Reporting to the director of strategic content, this individual will join a team that partners with admissions, academic programs, advancement, alumni, and the president to share the value and impact of the Muhlenberg experience. The videographer will profile students, faculty, staff, alumni, and others across the programs and experiences that make Muhlenberg a vibrant community. The videographer’s work will support messaging with the college’s prospective and existing community, including through promotion across social media and the college's website.

Characteristic Responsibilities:

Identify and develop stories that support Muhlenberg’s strategic priorities

  • Plan, shoot, and edit short-form and long-form video that supports communications and marketing initiatives
  • Contribute to a storytelling team through video that supports and enhances written and visual media
  • Work with on-campus teams and contracted firms for large-scale video initiatives

Collaborate with partners on campus

  • Work closely with OCM staff (including but not limited to the social media manager, athletics communications staff, and the director of strategic content) on idea generation and execution
  • Work with partners in admissions, advancement, academic and student life, and beyond to produce video for events and other initiatives as needed
  • Create and build a team of student videographers to assist with authentic portrayals of the Muhlenberg College liberal arts experience

Manage a flexible schedule, with occasional travel and weekend or evening events

  • A presence at orientation, Red Door Weekend, commencement, and other key college events is required
  • Occasional travel to capture footage and tell stories of students and alumni is required
  • May perform other duties as assigned.

Institutional Collaboration:

  • Partners with OCM colleagues, senior staff, faculty, and colleagues in admissions, advancement, graduate and continuing education, student life, and beyond to advance institutional priorities and support the college’s mission.
  • Engages regularly with faculty, staff, students, and other campus constituencies to understand needs, coordinate services, and strengthen collaboration.
  • Collaborates on institutional initiatives and special projects that require video support.
  • Builds productive relationships across the college and contributes to an inclusive campus environment where individuals are respected, valued, and supported.

Qualifications:

While no one person may possess all the qualifications listed below, the ideal candidate will have many of the following professional experiences, characteristics, and skills:

  • A bachelor’s degree in communication, journalism, film studies, media production, or a related field, or equivalent work experience
  • At least three years of full-time professional experience as a visual media creator
  • Demonstrated knowledge of video filming and production
  • Professional experience in independent and collaborative video production, including experience with scripting, interviewing, all aspects of audio and video production, lighting, and post-production
  • Proficiency with Adobe CC, including excellent command of Adobe Premiere, Audition, and After Effects
  • Strong storytelling ability and experience crafting compelling video
  • Ability to create video that delights, entertains, and engages viewers
  • Ability to collaborate with clients to bring communications goals to life through video
  • Ability to work independently and across multiple projects in a fast-paced environment
  • Ability to successfully deploy and promote best practices for video on the web and in social media
  • Ability to train, supervise, and educate a team of student filmmakers to assist with video projects
  • Exceptional communication skills, including the ability to express creative ideas clearly, concisely, and thoughtfully
  • Demonstrated commitment to fostering an inclusive academic and professional environment where all members of our campus community are respected, valued, and can succeed and thrive
  • Successful completion of satisfactory background checks including but not limited to education verification, criminal background, and child abuse clearance.
