THE OPPORTUNITY
This role sits within Operations supporting Nearwater's Risk Retention business, one of the firm's three business lines alongside Liquid Markets and Capital Markets, and is directly responsible for the accurate and timely settlement of security purchases and sales, repo transactions, invoicing, and other reporting requirements. It requires close coordination with our third-party custodian bank, counterparties, and trading teams, and also provides back-up support to the settlement process for the Risk Retention business.
WHAT YOU'LL DO
- Communicate with securities custodians to affect purchases of securities, wires, and other related settlement and administrative activities
- Monitor all trade settlements and coordinate with the custodian and counterparties to address any settlement issues
- Confirm security settlements and cash flows with the custodian bank and counterparties
- Keep management appraised of current settlement status and escalate issues as needed
- Coordinate with the accounting team to ensure all required information is available to book transactions
- Ensure invoices are sent to clients on a timely basis
- Work with service providers to ensure regulatory reporting requirements are met
- Monitor bank accounts for incoming payments and follow up with counterparties on missing or late payments
- Provide the trading desk with end-of-day positions
- Support special projects as needed
WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR
Required:
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent background and experience
- 2–5+ years of direct experience in a financial services organization performing fixed income operations and settlements including trade lifecycle and industry technology. Familiar with Enfusion a plus
- Operational Expertise: demonstrate considerable understanding of key operational functions such as Settlements, Trade Lifecycle Management, Reconciliations, Trade Support and Corporate Actions within Global Markets
- Excellent organizational skills and superior problem-solving capabilities
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- A team player who is detail oriented, with the ability to operate independently, multi-task and prioritize appropriately
Preferred:
- Experience with DTC, Euroclear, and Fedwire settlements
- Advanced Excel and experience with data-analysis or automation tools (e.g., Python, SQL, VBA, Power BI) to improve reporting accuracy and efficiency.
HOW YOU WORK
- Take ownership of a process end to end and follow through until it's actually resolved
- Move with urgency when something looks off, chasing down a discrepancy or unconfirmed settlement before it becomes a bigger problem
- Keep people informed as a matter of course, flagging status and issues without being asked
- Look for ways to automate or streamline manual steps in the settlement process
WHAT YOU'LL GET
- Real ownership of a function where accuracy and timeliness are visible immediately
- Direct, regular contact with trading, accounting, and senior leadership, with no layers in between
- A front-row seat to the full settlement lifecycle as the Risk Retention business scales
- A track record you can point to quickly, since the impact of the work shows up in real time
