Undergraduate Academic Advisor 2 (Newark)

The Ohio State University Newark campus serves undergraduate students pursuing any of the university’s 200+ majors, including several degree programs that can be completed entirely at Newark. The Undergraduate Academic Advisor 2 position provides academic advising and support to students within a designated group of undergraduate majors.
The Undergraduate Academic Advisor 2 plays a key role in promoting student success through proactive advising practices that help students make informed decisions and stay on track toward degree completion. This position provides individualized academic advising, assisting students with course planning and selection based on their academic progress, personal interests, and career goals. The advisor helps students understand and navigate university policies, degree requirements, academic procedures, and institutional expectations.
In addition, the Undergraduate Academic Advisor 2 connects students with a wide range of campus resources designed to support their academic achievement and overall well-being, including tutoring and academic support services, career development resources, financial assistance programs, and mental health and wellness services.
Working with a moderate level of independence, the Undergraduate Academic Advisor 2 completes structured assignments and contributes to projects of varying complexity. The position applies advanced advising concepts, established practices, and technical knowledge to support student needs and departmental objectives. The advisor communicates information on routine and standard matters, collaborating with colleagues and receiving guidance from senior staff when appropriate. Success in this role requires a strong understanding of academic advising principles, student development theory, and higher education practices gained through education and professional experience.
Additional responsibilities include supporting new student orientation programs by preparing materials and delivering presentations to students and their families as needed. The Undergraduate Academic Advisor 2 also facilitates lessons within a student survey course using established curriculum and instructional materials, participates in professional development and training activities, and may evaluate and grade student assignments.
The successful candidate will demonstrate strong academic advising skills, a commitment to student learning and development, excellent interpersonal and communication abilities, and a collaborative approach to supporting student success.

This position is based at the Ohio State University, Newark Campus in Newark, Ohio, with a target hiring range of $45,000 to $51,000
The College
The Ohio State University at Newark offered its first classes in 1957 with a mission to provide affordable, open access to Ohio State for all Ohioans. The Newark campus sits on 188 acres and shares the campus with Central Ohio Technical College. The two institutions have a strong partnership whereby they share all buildings and general-purpose classrooms, approximately 100 staff, operating expenses, and a number of capital equipment investments. Shared departments include Advancement; Business and Finance; Facilities, Planning and Operations; Library; Marketing and Public Relations; Purchasing and Auxiliary Services; Student Financial Services; and Student Life.
Ohio State Newark currently enrolls more than 2,200 students who are taught and mentored by 45 tenure-track faculty who are members of their university-level academic department. Students can complete eight bachelor’s degree programs at the Newark Campus and start any of Ohio State’s 200+ majors. In addition to excellent academic offerings, students can participate in the Honors program, service learning, education abroad, and a wide variety of student clubs and organizations.
Ohio State Newark is situated near the Ohio State University Columbus campus, presenting great opportunities for new and innovative partnerships to benefit students, faculty, and staff. The future of the campus will be impacted by the significant growth and development in Licking County, including a new Intel facility, expansion of Meta and Google facilities, and more. Students are creating innovative pathways to their degree completion due to the proximity to multiple campuses.
