Our Office Specialists are a key player in providing clerical support to caseworkers and supervisors at the Child Welfare agency.
We are seeking a Front Desk Specialist (Office Specialist 2) to join our North Bend Child Welfare team. North Bend is located on the southern Oregon Coast (not in Central Oregon).

Summary of Duties
As an employee working within the Child Welfare Program, you will have an opportunity to make a meaningful difference in the lives of Oregon’s most vulnerable children and families. Your dedication will help us achieve the Child Welfare Vision for Transformation that will support children and young adults to be safer, healthier, experience less trauma and achieve a greater well-being.
As a Front Desk Specialist, you will:
- Serve as the first point of contact for clients, visitors, staff, and community partners by providing professional and welcoming front desk support
- Answer calls, respond to inquiries, provide information, and direct clients and visitors to appropriate resources or staff.
- Receive and distribute mail and packages, maintain the reception area, and coordinate meeting room schedules.
- Distribute bus passes and other negotiable items while following established procedures and maintaining accurate records.
- Provide administrative support, including funding requests, staff supplies, and notarization services.
- Maintain internal procedures and desk manuals to ensure information is clear and current.
- Assist with all duties relating to the fleet vehicles.
Minimum Qualifications
A valid driver’s license and acceptable driving record are required for this position.
- Two years of general clerical experience that includes keyboarding, word processing, or other experience generating documents;
OR
- An associate degree in any field;
OR
- An equivalent combination of education and experience.
Essential Attributes
We are looking for candidates with:
- Experience performing front desk or reception duties, including assisting customers, providing information, and managing routine administrative tasks.
- Experience explaining rules, regulations, procedures, or program requirements related to a specific service or program to individuals.
- Experience using computer systems to enter, process, verify, and maintain detailed information accurately.
- Experience communicating with clients or customers to identify concerns and resolve conflicts, including interactions that are escalated or complex.
- Experience adapting communication or service approaches to meet the needs of individuals with different backgrounds, communication styles, or circumstances.
- Experience communicating in both English and Spanish to provide information, explain services or procedures, and assist clients or customers.
While not required, preference will be given to candidates who are bilingual in English and Spanish.

Working Conditions
- Your work schedule will be Monday - Friday from 8 am - 5 pm PT on-site in North Bend, OR; hours may fluctuate based on service needs. Remote opportunities will not be available.
- Your role involves handling sensitive topics related to trauma, abuse, and crises, requiring a trauma-informed approach that is essential to ensure a safe environment.
- You may interact with individuals who have experienced trauma and may have difficulty managing their emotions.
- Be prepared for stressful situations that require quick decision-making to ensure safety for yourself and others.
Background Checks and Requirements
- A valid driver’s license and acceptable driving record are required for this position.

- Finalists must be cleared by the FBI Criminal Justice Information Services (CJIS) through a fingerprint-based criminal records check.
- The Oregon Department of Human Services does not offer visa sponsorship. Within three days of hire, you will be required to complete the US Department of Homeland Security’s I-9 form confirming authorization to work in the United States. ODHS will use E-Verify to confirm that you are authorized to work in the United States.
