Job Description:
This recruitment will be used to fill 10 part-time (maximum of 24 hours per week) Student Technical Assistant positions for the Department of Food Science and Technology at Oregon State University (OSU) in the OSU Creamery.
- Completing orders in the retail shop including uniformed scooping, baking waffle cones, crafting milkshakes and other operational needs
- Cleaning and sanitizing equipment and workspaces
- Operating the point-of-sale system, tracking orders and sales, handling cash and interacting with customers
- Assist with ice cream exchanges with the production plant and completing paperwork

- Must be academically enrolled in a high school, community college, or university and pursuing a program or course of study
- Must meet Academic Standing Requirements; students on academic suspension are not eligible for employment
- Must meet the applicable minimal enrollment standard High School student: Regularly enrolled in a high school or participating in a home-schooling program Undergraduate and post-baccalaureate student: 6 credit hours per term Undergraduate international student: 12 credit hours per term* Graduate student officially admitted to Graduate School: 5 credit hours per term Graduate international student officially admitted to Graduate School: 9 credit hours per term*
*International students may be allowed to carry fewer hours than specified above and still be considered “full-time” by the United States Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS). A reduced course load is approved by the Office of International Services (OIS), and must be provided to the Student Employment Center.
Required Qualifications

- Able to prioritize and complete assigned tasks and responsibilities in a timely manner
- Passion and interest in food or foodservice
- The candidate must be able to communicate effectively in both written and oral English

Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience with retail ice cream shops or retail sales
- Bilingual or multilingual
- Prior food service or other customer service experience
- Demonstratable commitment to promoting and enhancing diversity
Working Conditions/Schedule:
• Required to obtain an Oregon Food Handlers Card within 15 days of employment • Expected to work frequent evening and weekend hours, as required, to support production needs • Will be working in a fast-paced environment, often required to lift more than 50 lbs • Lift, push, pull and carry items weighing 50-100 lbs repeatedly • May require walking, standing, bending and stooping for extended periods • May require working with or around cleaning chemicals • Required to attend staff meetings, supervisory meetings and professional development sessions • Shift and/or work assignments may be changed based on operational needs
