Western Slope Health Center is seeking a dependable and hands-on Maintenance Assistant to join our team!
This position plays an important role in maintaining a safe, clean, comfortable, and well-functioning environment for our residents, staff, and visitors.

Position Summary
The Maintenance Assistant assists with maintaining the facility, grounds, equipment, and common areas in a safe and efficient manner while following applicable federal, state, and local regulations, facility policies and procedures, and the direction of the supervisor.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
- Follow established maintenance schedules and daily work assignments.
- Perform routine maintenance and repairs throughout the facility, including basic plumbing, electrical, carpentry, plastering, mechanical, and other maintenance tasks as directed.
- Maintain grounds, parking areas, driveways, walkways, and other exterior areas by cutting, trimming, sweeping, cleaning, and policing as needed.
- Replace burned-out light bulbs, including exit lights, overhead lights, fluorescent lights, room call lights, and other fixtures.
- Clean windows, screens, and other areas as directed.
- Assist with servicing heating and cooling units/systems in accordance with manufacturer recommendations and facility procedures.
- Perform scheduled and unscheduled maintenance tasks as assigned.
- Report equipment malfunctions, breakdowns, accidents, and incidents to the supervisor promptly.
- Coordinate maintenance activities with nursing services when working in resident living areas.
- Maintain adequate maintenance supplies and notify the supervisor when supplies need to be replenished.
- Ensure equipment is cleaned and properly stored after use.
- Follow all established safety precautions when using tools, equipment, and supplies.
- Assist coworkers with lifting and moving equipment, supplies, and other items as needed.
- Help maintain a comfortable, safe, and functional environment for residents.
- Inform residents when it is necessary to move personal possessions.
- Maintain confidentiality of all resident information, including protected health information (PHI).
- Promptly report suspected or known unauthorized disclosure of resident information.
- Attend departmental and staff meetings as required.
- File complaints or grievances with the appropriate supervisor.
- Perform other related duties as assigned by the supervisor, department director, or Administrator.
Qualifications
Education & Experience
- Must possess, at minimum, a 10th-grade education.
- Previous maintenance, facilities, construction, healthcare, or related experience is helpful but may not be required.
- Ability to follow written and verbal instructions and established procedures.
- Ability to work independently and accept constructive feedback.
- Ability to communicate and interact tactfully with residents, families, visitors, coworkers, government representatives, and the general public.
- Ability to properly care for and maintain tools, supplies, equipment, and maintenance work areas.
- Willingness to learn new maintenance methods and practices.
- Basic ability to work with fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions.
- Ability to troubleshoot practical problems and make appropriate decisions within established guidelines.
- Ability to interpret written instructions, diagrams, schedules, and verbal directions.

- Occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.
- Frequently stand, walk, sit, bend, reach, talk, read, and hear.
- Use maintenance tools, equipment, and facility-related equipment.
- Work in resident living areas and throughout the facility and grounds.
- Assist with lifting or moving equipment and supplies when needed.
- Assist with resident evacuation during emergency situations when necessary.
Work Environment
The employee works in a healthcare facility environment with exposure to indoor and outdoor work areas. The noise level is generally low to moderate, although conditions may vary depending on maintenance activities and facility operations.
