Sr. Manager, Centralized Facilities Design

Rivian

El Segundo, California; Irvine, California; Atlanta, Georgia, United States

About Rivian Rivian is on a mission to keep the world adventurous forever. This goes for the emissions-free Electric Adventure Vehicles we build, and the curious, courageous souls we seek to attract. As a company, we constantly challenge what’s possible, never simply accepting what has always been done. We reframe old problems, seek new solutions and operate comfortably in areas that are unknown. Our backgrounds are diverse, but our team shares a love of the outdoors and a desire to protect it for future generations. Role Summary Sitting within the Centralized Group in Facilities, the in-house Design and Standards team shapes the physical touchpoints of our brand - from retail spaces and dynamic workplaces to production facilities. We are seeking a Senior Manager, Centralized Facilities Design who will lead concept design development at the prototypical level for scalable standards, as well as lead the design development and execution for high-impact special projects. In this role, you will weave our brand narrative into physical experiences that are scalable, financially viable, and aligned with our overall business strategy. By translating brand standards and direction from the Creative Studio team and collaborating closely with the Standards team and cross-functional leadership, you will provide clear, executable concept designs that will either be documented and deployed across our physical footprint or built out as unique flagship experiences. We are looking for a strong design storyteller who understands user needs, adapts quickly to change, and can clearly explain complex design decisions to partners of all backgrounds. Responsibilities Prototypical Standards: Lead concept design development for new customer touchpoints, focusing on creating foundational standards that can be efficiently replicated across our fleet. Translate brand standards and direction from the Creative Studio team, and collaborate with the Centralized Standards team to provide them with clear, executable concept designs to be documented and deployed across our physical footprint. Partner with end users and stakeholders to develop concepts that balance aesthetics, functionality, operational needs, and financial targets. Select finishes, materials, and FF&E that are highly durable, financially viable, and easily sourced for high-volume, standardized execution. Prove that incredible customer experiences can be achieved efficiently through smart design, strategic material choices, and close collaboration with vendors on cost efficiencies. Adapt quickly to shifting business needs and pivot prototypical design strategies effectively to maintain alignment with the company's growth trajectory. Special Projects: Collaborate with the Creative Studio team to ingest design briefs and partner on design development for flagships and unique special projects. Work closely with the Real Estate team on site selection and program feasibility for varied footprints. Program client and stakeholder needs by leading interviews, workshops, and organizing feedback to develop test fits, space planning, and conceptual design schemes. Lead project teams throughout all phases of design—from programming and schematic design through design development and construction administration—overseeing documentation including drawings, schedules, specifications, and custom details. Manage and collaborate closely with external Architects of Record (AOR) and Engineers of Record (EOR) to ensure design intent and quality are maintained through final execution. Work side-by-side with internal Construction Managers to provide guidance, resolve on-site challenges, and participate in the Construction Administration phase. Design with clear storytelling through color, materiality, texture, technology, and scale, utilizing unique spatial footprints advantageously. Develop overall schematic design presentations that effectively communicate vision, programming, and brand experience to key clients and leadership. Partner with retail and marketing teams to provide creative direction for campaigns, seasonal store designs, and new product launches. Team Leadership: Mentor and develop junior designers, fostering a culture of creativity, collaboration, and continuous learning. Provide constructive feedback on design work, ensuring quality and alignment with overall team goals. Manage team resources and project assignments, ensuring balance and efficiency across the creative team. Drive team engagement and promote best practices in design development and technical execution. Qualifications 9+ years of architecture or interior design experience in scalable retail, commercial, or hospitality projects. Degree in Architecture or Interior Design Proficiency in Revit, Rhino, Figma and modern 3D Spatial software. Strong background in design development, FF&E, millwork detailing, and executive presentations. Proven ability to align creative vision with budgets, scalability, operational needs, and tight deadlines. Ability to work onsite a minimum of 3 days per week (up to 5 days encouraged) at the assigned location. Ability to travel occasionally to project sites, vendor facilities, and cross-functional workshops.
