Salary Grade: CS122 Minimum starting salary: $78,370. Final salary will be determined based on experience, qualifications, and other relevant factors.

Position Summary

The Director of the Center for Professional Learning is responsible for strategically leading, designing, and overseeing comprehensive, ongoing professional development initiatives aimed at enhancing the skills and effectiveness of Santa Fe Community College’s (SFCC) 65 full-time faculty, 272 adjunct faculty, and 324 staff members.

The Director will foster an inclusive culture of continuous learning and professional growth, aligning development activities with institutional goals, leadership and departmental training, academic excellence, teaching innovation, and student success.

This position will be eligible for hybrid work as determined by the Chief Human Resources Officer

Duties & Responsibilities

• Develop and implement a comprehensive strategic vision for ongoing professional development aligned with SFCC’s mission and strategic priorities.
• Oversee annual institutional assessments to identify and address faculty and staff professional learning needs.
• Collaborate closely with Human Resources, Academic Affairs, and the Office of Online Teaching and Learning to ensure consistency and effectiveness in ongoing training programs and initiatives.
• Collaborate with the Office of Online Teaching and Learning for the creation and administration of professional development curricula, ensuring continuous integration of best practices in pedagogy, online teaching, technology integration, learning management system (LMS) usage, and alignment with Quality Matters standards.
• Manage professional development budgets, including grants and other external funding sources, ensuring accountability and alignment with college priorities.
• Identify, engage, and coordinate external experts, consultants, and facilitators for sustained professional learning programs, including the identification of external professional opportunities that faculty may participate in.
• Oversee the design and implementation of assessment tools, such as surveys and evaluations, to measure the ongoing effectiveness and impact of professional development activities.
• Promote and support sustained professional growth opportunities, including workshops, conferences, online modules, certifications, and recurring learning sessions ensuring continuous access for all employee groups.
• Develop and maintain an online Professional Development Resource Hub, providing faculty and staff with accessible tools, resources, and best practice guidelines.
• Facilitate collaborative learning opportunities and communities of practice to enhance professional engagement across campus.
• Ensure ongoing communication and transparency through institutional channels, including intranet resources, newsletters, and regular reporting to senior leadership.
• Serve as an advisor to senior leadership on trends and best practices in professional development within higher education.
• Design and implement ongoing leadership development programs specifically for early- and mid-level managers.
• Develop engaging, continuous, and area-specific learning plans tailored to the professional growth and operational effectiveness of staff.

Required Skills/Abilities:

• Exceptional leadership, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
• Strong understanding of professional learning methodologies, including adult learning principles, instructional design, and e-learning.
• Proficiency in designing, implementing, and evaluating comprehensive and ongoing professional development programs.
• Demonstrated commitment to equity-focused, culturally relevant, and inclusive pedagogical practices.
• Ability to manage budgets.
• Competence with technology-enhanced learning and professional development platforms.
• Ability to collaborate effectively across various departments and stakeholder groups.
• Experience in training faculty in ongoing pedagogy improvement, teaching innovation, online instruction, LMS utilization (e.g. Workday Learning, Canvas, etc.), and Quality Matters standards.
• Experience in developing continuous leadership skills and engaging department specific learning plans for staff.
• Experience utilizing HCM platforms (e.g. Workday).

Minimum Qualifications:

• Master's degree in Education, Human Resources, Social Sciences, Organizational Development, or a closely related field. Equivalent experience may be substituted for education on a year-to-year basis.
• Seven (7) years of progressive experience in professional development, training, instructional design, or educational leadership, with a minimum of three (3) years in a supervisory role.
• Experience in training both faculty and staff with demonstrated success in enhancing ongoing teaching excellence, innovation, and leadership skills.

Physical Demands and Working Conditions:

• Minimal physical effort and exposure to physical risks.
• Work is primarily performed in a standard office environment.

Work Hours:

• Typically, 8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday. May be required to work after-hours and/or weekends.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

• Supervises professional development staff.
