SOFT GOODS TECHNICIAN, CUTTING (STARFALL)
SpaceX is seeking exceptional employees to enable the success of its Starfall, Dragon, and Starship programs at the Bloomfield, Connecticut site. The Soft Goods Technician - Cutting will operate automated cutting equipment to mark and cut textiles for parachutes and other soft goods. This role is dedicated to the Eastman laser table and Carlson automated cutting table and will pull and kit material for their own work. This role will have a close feedback loop with the larger team in our pursuit of making access to and from space as safe and reliable as possible.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Operate automated cutting tables to mark and cut soft goods to work-order and drawing requirements
- Set up jobs including material load, alignment, nesting, and table settings
- Troubleshoot minor setup issues to maintain workmanship and repeatability
- Pull required material from inventory and kit parts for your own cutting work; kit cut parts to the shop floor as needed
- Verify marks and cuts against templates, drawings, and work instructions; identify non-conformances and stop work when results are out of specification
- Perform routine table care (cleaning, alignment checks, knife or laser readiness) and report equipment issues that affect cut quality
- Perform hand or hot-knife cuts as required
- Navigate work orders, clock in and out of operations, and work to the current drawing revision
- Keep the cutting area and adjacent shop space organized (5S)
- Follow FOD, PPE, and material handling best-practices
- Move material and cut kits through the shop and assist with incoming staging or production workflow
- Perform light site and equipment upkeep (clean tables, change filters, replace accessible ducting, report facility or machine issues)
- Support other production tasks as directed and trained
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:
- High school diploma or equivalency certificate
- 1+ years of hands-on experience in a manufacturing or production setting
PREFERRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:
- Experience operating an automated cutting table, laser cutter, or CNC machinery (Eastman, Carlson, or similar)
- Experience marking and cutting textiles or other soft goods
- Experience in production facility inventory management
- Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, work orders, and specifications
- Experience performing machine maintenance
- Experience in aerospace, textiles, or industrial sewing
- Experience with 5S, FOD control, common practices in manufacturing environment
- Experience operating a pallet jack or forklift
- Familiarity with Microsoft Office (Excel, PowerPoint, Word, Outlook)
- Strong communication skills (written and oral)
- Proficiency in other languages (Spanish, Portuguese, Vietnamese)
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Must be able to work long hours (10+) and weekends/holidays as necessary
- Must be willing to work all shifts and overtime as needed
- Must be able to stand for extended periods - 8 hours minimum
- Able to lift and carry up to 50 lbs. unassisted
- Must be able to travel to remote sites if required
- Ability to pass Space Force and Air Force background checks to support travel to Cape Canaveral and Vandenberg
