JD: Grade 8-10 – Software Engineer, Security and Solutions, Routing SD-WAN

Cisco is a global leader in networking and IT, dedicated to transforming how people connect, communicate, and collaborate. To provide best-in-class technologies to our customers, we've created an unrivaled company culture for our employees. One that is collaborative, empathetic, and provides employees with the autonomy to develop technology that's intuitive, secure, and simple for everyone to use.

Our Routing SD-WAN Group is at the forefront of innovation, delivering intelligent, secure, and scalable WAN edge solutions that empower enterprises to connect and protect their networks from the edge to the cloud.

We, Security, Solutions and SD-WAN Platform Infra, are a team focused on building next-generation secure connectivity solutions across VPN, cryptography, PKI, and SD-WAN. Across on-prem, cloud, and SSE/SIG environments, we deliver secure, scalable systems and apply AI/ML-driven intelligence to improve security posture, automate certificate lifecycle management, optimize performance, and enable predictive monitoring at scale. Our work spans SD-WAN Platform Infrastructure, crypto infrastructure, PKI systems, VPN technologies, SD-WAN secure fabric, and post-quantum security, powering millions of secure connections globally.

We are looking for a Software Engineer/Sr. Software Engineer to join our Security, Solutions and SD-WAN Platform Infra team. You will be part of a team building secure networking solutions across VPN, cryptographic infrastructure, PKI, and SD-WAN integrated solutions in a high-impact, fast-paced environment. Your work will help shape scalable, secure systems that enable site-to-site and remote access VPNs, certificate-driven trust models, cloud connectivity, and AI-enhanced secure SD-WAN architectures including initiatives in post-quantum security.

What you will work on:

  • Design and build secure networking solutions across VPN (IPSec/IKEv2), PKI, and SD-WAN Platform Infrastructure
  • Collaborate with cross-functional engineering teams to design and deliver core security and connectivity features for large-scale deployments
  • Use AI-assisted tools such as Codex to improve engineering productivity, automation, debugging, and software quality
  • Contribute to high-impact projects that improve scalability, resiliency, security posture, and customer experience
  • Share and broaden your knowledge by giving brown bags, tech talks, and promoting engineering best practices

Required Skills & Experience

  • 5–8 years of experience building production-grade software systems
  • 4+ Years of Strong programming skills in C/C++
  • Solid understanding of networking fundamentals (TCP/IP, routing, distributed systems)
  • 4+ years of hands-on experience designing/enhancing core networking or security or SDWAN features
  • Experience designing and delivering scalable and reliable systems
  • Experience in embedded Linux software development
  • Ability to own features end-to-end from design to deployment
  • Strong problem-solving, communication, and collaboration skills

Preferred (Good to Have)

  • Experience with IPSec VPN technologies
  • Experience in embedded Linux software development workflows, including compilation and integration within Yocto-based or similar Linux platforms.
  • Understanding of PKI systems and certificate lifecycle management
  • Background in network security
  • Exposure to cryptographic systems or secure communication protocols
  • Experience using AI-assisted development tools (e.g., Copilot, Codex) to improve engineering productivity

Bonus points for any of the following:

  • Exposure to post-quantum cryptography (PQC) or cryptographic agility
  • Experience working with networking/security standards (RFCs)
  • Embedded Linux system development, Yocto-based build system expertise, and cloud platform integration skills.
  • Experience building or using Codex-based agents and AI-assisted tools to improve engineering productivity, automate development workflows, or contribute AI-enabled capabilities to networking and security products

We encourage you to drop us a line even if you don’t have all the points above. That's a lot of different areas of responsibility! We will help you pick them up because we believe that great engineers come from diverse backgrounds.
