One of the top challenges facing Toast customers today is getting new guests. Toast Advertising is a restaurant advertising tool that lets Toast customers launch and manage Google and Meta campaigns from within the Toast platform. It is built for US restaurants that want to reach new guests, drive traffic to owned channels like online ordering, catering and events, and Toast Tables, and track return on ad spend without using separate ad tools or spreadsheets. Within Toast’s suite, it connects marketing performance to ordering, reservations, catering, and in-store sales data.

We’re looking for a Software Engineering Manager to help lead our efforts to build a true demand generation engine for our customers. In this role, you’ll guide a team delivering high-impact features that directly impact one of the fastest growing products in Toast’s history. You’ll be responsible not just for what the team builds, but how it builds—driving clarity, improving execution, and maintaining a high bar for quality.

About this role:

• Collaborate with product management, design and other stakeholders to define the operational plan and roadmap for Toast Advertising
• Align the team to current priorities and help them keep executing at a consistently high level.
• Partner with stakeholders across the organization to help your teams get stuff done
• Mentor both new and experienced engineers in both technology and leadership
• Track and ensure teams are delivering impact and outcomes in their work
• Drive knowledge sharing programs across the team and broader engineering organization
• Hire and develop new team members

Do you have the right skills?

• Experience writing, delivering, and operating software in a SaaS environment
• Experience mentoring and developing successful teams
• Bias to action - knowing how to balance getting things done and making things perfect
• Ownership mindset - taking end-to-end accountability for team outcomes, proactively identifying and solving problems, and driving continuous improvement beyond just assigned tasks
• A strong sense of empathy for customers and teammates
• A desire to build a diverse team that wins together and prioritizes customer success
• Experience in an early stage technology startup
• Experience building products with deep dependencies on 3rd party integrations

• A core of Java & Kotlin based backend services
• React SPAs leveraging Tailwind, GraphQL and Storybook.
• Claude Code and similar AI agentic development tools as part of daily engineering
• PostgreSQL and DynamoDB as core persistence
