Job Functions:
Under the direction of the Vice President, this position provides strategic leadership and operational oversight for the Offices of Institutional Research and Institutional Effectiveness.
Leadership and Administration
- Provides oversight for state and federal required reporting as completed by Institutional Research which includes but is not limited to IPEDS and State University Database System (SUDS).
- Provides leadership for the offices in planning, design, data collection, analysis, interpretation, presentation, and validation of institutional research studies, using the full spectrum of university data to inform university administration.
- Aligns strategic institutional priorities with organizational capacity and available resources to support effective prioritization.
- Participates in professional organizations and advisory boards such as the Association for Institutional Research, the Southern Association for Institutional Research, the State University System of Florida Council of Data Administrators, and other relevant national and regional professional organizations to remain apprised of current issues and concerns in the field.
- Serves on the university Performance Funding Taskforce supporting institutional efforts to increase performance in key areas to include but not limited to retention, progression, graduation, and employment and continuing education outcomes.
- Assists Vice President with managing office budgets, including planning and monitoring budget expenditures.
Data Governance and Integrity
- Serves in a leadership role in university data governance by chairing the Data Management working group and serving on the Data Governance Council.
- Establishes and implements university-wide data governance standards and policies.
- Developing and maintaining processes that promote data integrity and consistency across university data sources.
- Establishes, maintains, and supports the use of institutional reporting standards, data definitions, and documentation within Institutional Research and Institutional Effectiveness.
- Provides data literacy training and support to campus stakeholders.
- Serves as the primary contact with internal audit during the annual Performance Based Funding Data Integrity Audit which is required by state statute.
External and Compliance Reporting
- Maintains and reports data required by state and federal governments, external agencies, and accrediting agencies, including but not limited to the Florida Board of Governors, IPEDS, AAUP, NCAA, CUPA, and U.S. News & World Report.
- Oversees the full Faculty Activity Reporting (FAR) process, from data collection through final reporting of the data to the Board of Governors.
- Ensures institutional reporting complies with university policies and state and federal regulations through regular monitoring of new and potential legislation.
Research and Analysis
- Conducts quantitative and qualitative research and analysis to support evidence-based planning and decision-making.
- Provides oversight for administering, analyzing, and sharing data from designated university surveys coordinated by Institutional Research and Institutional Effectiveness.
- Conducts policy analysis and benchmarking to ensure optimal university performance and compliance.
Data Delivery, Availability, and Accessibility
- Prepares reports, disseminates, and interprets information, provides advice, and delivers presentations to university administration and other stakeholders.
- Works closely with the Business Intelligence Team in ITS to ensure that appropriate data is ingested in the Enterprise Data Warehouse for strategic analysis to support university decision making.
- Maintains and enhances the structure, content, and use of university dashboards and reports.
- Provides data to internal constituents to support data-informed decision-making, assessment, grant development, and other institutional effectiveness functions.
- Regularly audits data access report to ensure access to sensitive data is associated with business needs.
Institutional Effectiveness
- Fosters a culture of assessment, accountability, continuous quality improvement, and evidence-based decision-making in support of the University’s institutional effectiveness goals.
Marginal Functions
- Acts on the behalf of the Vice President in their absence to include responding to cabinet and executive level data requests and questions.
- Serves as the University Data Administrator in the Vice President’s absence.
- During declared campus emergencies, this position may be required to perform specific job-related duties at a designated off-campus location or place of residence.
Supervision Exercised
- Supervises the Director of Assessment and Assistant Director of Institutional Research as well as up to five institutional research programmers and analysts.
- This position may also supervise Graduate Assistants, Student Assistants, other OPS personnel, and Contract Employees.
Required Qualifications
Master's and 7+ years of relevant experience or Bachelor's degree and 9+ years of relevant experience. Or an equivalent combination of education and experience pursuant to Fla. Stat. 112.219.
