JOB OVERVIEW

We're seeking a highly organized, collaborative, and experienced Manager of Sports Medicine to support the delivery and coordination of comprehensive medical care for athletes across the league.

Reporting to the Director of Medical, the Manager, Sports Medicine coordinates day-to-day athlete medical care across Unrivaled — from on-site sports medicine services and physician/specialist scheduling to continuity of care and serving as the primary liaison with participating athletes' WNBA team medical staffs. Success in this role requires strong clinical judgment, discretion, and the ability to juggle multiple medical and administrative priorities in a fast-paced professional basketball environment.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Sports Medicine Operations and Athlete Care

• Support the Director of Medical in daily sports medicine operations across practices, training sessions, games, and tour stops.
• Evaluate, treat, and manage athletic injuries within scope of practice and league protocols; coordinate rehabilitation, recovery, and return-to-participation plans.
• Escalate significant medical concerns, complex injuries, or changes in athlete status to the Director of Medical or appropriate physician.
• Assist with emergency action plans and procedures.
• Maintain treatment areas and manage medical inventory and supply ordering.

WNBA and External Medical Coordination

• Serve as the primary liaison between Unrivaled and participating athletes' WNBA medical staffs, coordinating continuity of care for athletes entering or exiting the league with active treatment needs.
• Coordinate physician, specialist, and imaging appointments — scheduling, transportation, referrals — and track completion of recommended follow-up care.
• Facilitate timely, privacy-compliant communication of injury status, treatment plans, and restrictions between Unrivaled and WNBA organizations.
• Obtain and route medical reports and imaging results to the Director of Medical and authorized care team members.

Medical Documentation and Administration

• Maintain accurate, confidential medical records in the league's EMR system, including evaluations, treatments, and referrals.
• Prepare daily medical status/injury reports and organize testing and follow-up documentation.
• Support the Director of Medical in maintaining department policies and workflows.

Interdisciplinary Collaboration and Leadership

• Collaborate with team physicians, athletic trainers, PTs, and performance/basketball ops staff on multidisciplinary care and return-to-play planning.
• Provide operational leadership when delegated by the Director of Medical, including oversight of seasonal or contracted medical personnel.
• Build trusted athlete relationships and promote a collaborative, athlete-centered culture.

QUALIFICATIONS

• Minimum of 2+ years of relevant sports medicine experience with a professional sports team. (experience working within the WNBA, NBA, NCAA Division I Athletics or another elite professional sports environment, is a plus)
• Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution in Athletic Training or a related sports medicine or healthcare discipline.
• BOC certification (for athletic training duties) and a current or license-eligible athletic training credential in the required jurisdiction(s).
• Current CPR/AED certification (Healthcare Provider or Professional Rescuer level).
• Experience coordinating care with physicians, physical therapists, and other providers, and documenting in an EMR system.
• Strong working knowledge of orthopedic/sports injuries, rehab principles, emergency care, and return-to-sport processes.
• Experience coordinating medical care and referrals across multiple teams, organizations, or healthcare systems.
• Prior experience in a sports medicine leadership, administrative, or medical operations role.
