Compensation and Benefits

Unusual Machines

Orlando, FL

Unusual Machines is a U.S.-based drone and drone parts company focused on the small and First-Person View (FPV) segments of the drone market. Our brands - Rotor Riot, Fat Shark, Rotor Lab and - coming soon - Upgrade Energy - are some of the most respected names in FPV and have helped shape the industry through e-commerce, product development, and a deep connection with the pilot community.

We’re expanding into enterprise and defense - bringing our obsessive attention to performance, design, and U.S.-based manufacturing into high-stakes environments like search and rescue and military innovation. With several of our products already approved by the Defense Innovation Unit, we’re solving procurement issues for customers who demand speed, agility, and compliance.

If you love working at the intersection of community, content, and cutting-edge technology, you’ll feel right at home here.

Compensation & Benefits

You in This Role: You are a collaborative partner who loves exploring how fast-growing companies work. We are a drone component manufacturing company that grew 10X in the last year. Because we grew so fast, we need a curious professional to help us learn where we stand today so we can plan for tomorrow. Your priority is discovery. Before building anything, you will listen, learn, and help map out our status quo. Our executive team wants to stay flexible and avoid rigid corporate rules. You will act as a trusted advisor, helping leadership look at our options before we make steady, careful updates to our pay and benefits.

What You'll Do

  • Spend your initial months studying our current manufacturing, engineering and office roles to understand how people are currently grouped and paid.
  • Work hand-in-hand with the Director of TA/OD and the VP of HR to brainstorm ideas for our future rewards structure.
  • Gather data on what other manufacturing companies pay so we can see how our compensation matches up.
  • Help interview our C-suite leaders to understand their goals regarding future pay and benefits structures.
  • Present simple, flexible ideas for performance checks and rewards that keep our startup agile.
  • Examine our existing health and wellness plans to find small, easy ways to improve them for our team.
  • Keep an eye on local and federal labor laws for manufacturing to ensure our current setup protects the company, previous CA experience strongly preferred

What You'll Bring

  • A minimum of 5 years of experience working in compensation and benefits, with a strong preference for someone who has helped a startup scale.
  • A Bachelor’s degree in HR, Business, or Finance (or equivalent experience).
  • A team-first mindset, with a desire to work in lockstep with HR leadership and the C-suite.
  • Great listening skills and the patience to study our current setup before jumping into fixes.
  • Experience looking at salary surveys and job roles to find helpful patterns and insights.
  • An understanding of manufacturing settings, especially the unique needs of both hourly factory workers and office teams.
  • Total comfort with an environment where roles are still being shaped and plans change quickly.
  • The ability to share what you learn in a simple, friendly way with everyone from factory workers to top executives.
