About Team

Catalog Engineering team is at the forefront of building core platforms and services to enable Walmart to deliver vast selection at competitive prices and with best-in-class item setup & post-order experience by enabling third-party sellers/suppliers to list, sell and manage their products to our customers on walmart.com and at Walmart Stores. We do this by becoming the single source of truth from Catalog & Item information by collating the data concepts from various sources. This platform deals with very high volume of data.

What you will do

As a Software Engineer III, you will play a critical role in building highly scalable, reliable, and performant systems that power Walmart’s global eCommerce and retail operations.

• Design & Build Scalable Systems: Architect, develop, and maintain large-scale distributed systems that support millions of users and transactions.

• Drive End-to-End Feature Development: Own features from design to deployment, ensuring high quality, performance, and maintainability.

• Collaborate Across Teams:Work closely with product managers, designers, and cross-functional engineering teams to translate business requirements into technical solutions.

• Improve System Reliability: Proactively identify performance bottlenecks, troubleshoot production issues, and ensure system availability.

• Adopt Modern Engineering Practices: Contribute to CI/CD pipelines, automated testing frameworks, and DevOps culture.

• Drive Innovation: Introduce new technologies, frameworks, and architectural improvements to enhance system efficiency and scalability.

• Data-Driven Decision Making: Use metrics, logging, and monitoring to optimize system performance and user experience.

What you will bring

• Minimum 2 years of object-oriented programming experience in Java.

• Strong understanding of Data Structures, Algorithms, and System Design

• Experience with microservices architecture and RESTful APIs

• Hands-on experience with cloud platforms (Azure, AWS, or GCP)

• Familiarity with databases (SQL & NoSQL such as MySQL, Cassandra, MongoDB)

Engineering Excellence

• Experience with distributed systems and high-scale applications

• Knowledge of CI/CD pipelines, DevOps practices, and containerization (Docker, Kubernetes)

• Strong debugging, troubleshooting, and performance optimization skills

Collaboration

• Ability to mentor and guide junior engineers

• Strong communication and collaboration skills across teams

• Experience working in Agile/Scrum environments

Problem-Solving Mindset

• Ability to break down complex problems into scalable solutions

• Strong analytical thinking and attention to detail
