About the role

An exciting opportunity has opened up as a Head of Data Platform and Data Engineering in the Data and Analytics Team. Reporting to the Chief Data & Analytics Officer (CDAO), the Head of Data Platform and Data Engineering is the end-to-end owner of the enterprise data platform (Snowflake), accountable for the data foundations that serve the firm and is responsible for growing the Data Engineering function.

In the role, the successful candidate will:

  • Own the Snowflake platform at enterprise level. Full accountability for platform strategy, architecture, performance, cost management, security and roadmap.
  • Set and govern data architecture. Define the target-state enterprise data architecture and the standards, patterns and design authority that govern how data is modelled, integrated and consumed across the firm.
  • Lead data engineering delivery. Build and run high-quality, resilient pipelines serving Finance, Risk, Analytics and the Wealth Management front office — including regulatory reporting data flows aligned to BCBS 239 principles of accuracy, completeness and timeliness.
  • Deliver AI-ready data. Ensure the platform provides governed, well-documented, high-quality data products that AI and machine learning use cases can use safely.
  • Lead the Data Engineering team with responsibility for the engineering standards, tooling, reusable patterns, career paths and ways of working in order to deliver business outcomes.
  • Manage senior stakeholders. Act as the trusted platform partner with key stakeholders across the firm including Finance, Risk, Technology, Operations, Investment Management and Wealth Management, translating their data needs into platform commitments.
  • Vendor Management - own commercial and delivery relationships with Snowflake and the wider platform vendor and partner ecosystem, ensuring value for money and delivery accountability.

About you

We are looking for someone with the following background and skills:

  • Degree or postgraduate qualification in a numerate or quantitative discipline (e.g., Mathematics, Computer Science, Statistics, Management Science, Information Management, Economics) or equivalent industry experience.
  • Track record of leading data platform and data engineering functions in financial services. Experience in wealth management, asset management, private banking or insurance strongly preferred.
  • Expertise in Snowflake (or an equivalent cloud data platform) at enterprise scale, including cost, security and performance management.
  • Proven enterprise data architecture capability including definition of target state, development of roadmap and leadership of design authority.
  • Experience delivering data products and regulatory reporting requirements for key functions including Finance, Risk and Operations.
  • Demonstrated experience making data “AI-ready” — data products, quality frameworks, metadata and lineage that AI use cases can build on.
  • Experience in leading and developing teams including development of data engineering capability and career path.
  • Strong stakeholder and vendor management experience is an essential capability for the role holder.
  • Strong planning and organisational skills, including the ability to take initiative and manage priorities effectively. Experience with Agile frameworks and continuous improvement methodologies.
  • Ensure compliance with data privacy, ethics and regulatory requirements with a strong focus on embedding Responsible AI principles.
