The Wounded Warrior Project (WWP) Vice President of Marketing Strategy & Audience Growth leads the development of audience-centered marketing strategies that increase awareness, acquisition, engagement, advocacy, and brand affinity across warriors, donors, supporters, and other key stakeholder groups. This role oversees audience insights, market intelligence, and integrated planning, translating research and data into strategies that advance organizational priorities and long-term growth. As a member of the Marketing & Communications leadership team, the Vice President sets the strategic direction for brand positioning, audience planning, campaign development, fundraising marketing, and program marketing. Working closely with senior leaders across the organization, this role ensures marketing efforts are aligned, audience focused, and positioned to achieve WWP goals.
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
- Lead enterprise-wide audience growth strategies that increase awareness, acquisition, engagement, retention, and advocacy in support of WWP's mission, strategic priorities, recruitment objectives, fundraising goals, and brand growth.
- Serve as the organization's subject matter expert on audience behavior, motivations, and emerging market trends, identifying opportunities and risks that may impact growth and relevance.
- Lead the development and application of audience research, market intelligence, brand studies, and performance analytics, translating insights into strategic recommendations that improve audience growth, campaign effectiveness, and brand performance.
- Establish audience segmentation frameworks, personas, and audience journey maps that inform marketing strategy, planning, and execution.
- Lead integrated marketing strategy and annual planning processes, aligning audience needs, organizational priorities, and business objectives.
- Provide strategic direction for major campaigns, fundraising initiatives, program marketing efforts, and enterprise-wide marketing priorities.
- Partner with organizational leaders to identify opportunities and coordinate marketing strategies across audiences, channels, and stakeholder groups to maximize impact.
- Guide long-term brand positioning strategies that strengthen awareness, trust, and relevance among key audiences.
- Partner with the Communications leadership team to ensure audience insights inform messaging, storytelling, and stakeholder engagement efforts.
- Lead and develop a high-performing team responsible for audience strategy, research, planning, and growth initiatives.
- Present strategic recommendations, performance results, and market insights to executive leadership and key stakeholders.
- Foster a culture of innovation, accountability, continuous learning, and data-informed decision-making.
- Attend and actively participate in required training and/or meetings, including but not limited to New Teammate Orientation, WWP Cares, ASIST Suicide Prevention training, Leadership training, culture/team based training, or departmental huddles.
- Other related duties as assigned.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, & ABILITIES
- Deep expertise in audience strategy, growth marketing, brand strategy, and integrated campaign planning, with demonstrated success developing enterprise strategies that drive measurable audience growth and organizational outcomes.
- Advanced understanding of audience segmentation, persona development, customer journeys, market research, and analytics, with the ability to translate data and insights into actionable recommendations.
- Ability to develop cohesive enterprise strategies across marketing, communications, digital, content, and external engagement.
- Strong executive presence with demonstrated success influencing senior leaders, Board members, and external partners and building consensus across complex stakeholder groups.
- Exceptional critical thinking, strategic judgment, and problem-solving abilities, with the ability to balance long-term vision and practical execution.
- Excellent written and verbal communication, facilitation, and presentation skills, with the ability to convey complex strategies and insights clearly to executive, Board, and stakeholder audiences.
- Proven ability to lead through change, navigate ambiguity, prioritize competing opportunities, and allocate resources toward the highest-value initiatives.
- Strong leadership, coaching, talent development, and team-building skills.
- High emotional intelligence and cultural competency, with demonstrated sensitivity to military and veteran experiences.
- Demonstrated commitment to ethical leadership, accountability, collaboration, and organizational stewardship.

EXPERIENCE
Requirements
- Ten years of progressively responsible experience in marketing strategy, audience growth, brand strategy, integrated marketing, communications, or related functions.
- Eight years of senior leadership experience building, leading, and developing high-performing teams in complex organizations.
Preferences
- Twelve years of experience in marketing strategy, audience growth, brand strategy, integrated marketing, communications, or related functions, including leadership at the executive level.
- Experience in a nonprofit, membership, advocacy, healthcare, veteran services, or other mission-driven organization.
- Experience managing brand positioning, brand evolution, or enterprise-wide reputation initiatives.
EDUCATION
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in marketing, communications, business administration, or related field.
Preferences
- Master’s degree in marketing, communications, business administration, or related field.
