Job Description

This role provides enterprise-level strategic leadership, technical authority, and executive guidance to the Vice President, Fuel Engineering. The position drives the long‑range engineering strategy for TRISO‑X’s fuel design and manufacturing programs, ensuring alignment with corporate objectives, regulatory expectations, and industry advancements. The role influences cross‑organizational decision‑making, shapes engineering governance, and steers high‑impact initiatives critical to TRISO‑X’s mission.

Deep knowledge of nuclear regulations, regulatory reviews and inspections, nuclear codes and standards, budgeting, planning and scheduling, nuclear plant operations, nuclear safety analyses, and associated policies and procedures is required.

Job Profile Tasks/Responsibilities

• Provide high-level strategic insight and expert guidance to engineering leadership regarding the design and development of TRISO-X nuclear fuel fabrication facilities.
• Set direction for the development, design, fabrication, procurement, and installation of nuclear fuel manufacturing process equipment, ensuring technical rigor and alignment with enterprise strategy.
• Provide leadership and oversight for the development and integration of uranium recovery and waste processing equipment, ensuring compliance with regulatory and safety requirements.
• Serve as a senior engineering representative with groups across TRISO-X—including procurement, licensing, construction, project management, and R&D—to ensure enterprise-wide coordination of engineering activities and strategic initiatives.
• Advise the VP on program performance, including schedule, cost, risk, and mitigation plans, ensuring timely delivery of contract commitments and major engineering milestones.
• Support the VP in executive administrative responsibilities, including division-level budgeting, goal setting, workforce planning, and performance leadership.
• Provide authoritative leadership across key technical disciplines (nuclear, mechanical, instrumentation and controls, electrical) to advance TRISO-X fuel design, manufacturing capabilities, and long-term technical roadmap.
• Oversee reporting of engineering division performance for executive leadership and key external stakeholders.
• Engage with customers, partners, and industry representatives to advance TRISO-X business objectives, strengthen customer satisfaction, and support strategic growth.
• Identify, define, and lead resolution strategies for complex engineering challenges with significant impact on program success, collaborating closely with the VP.
• Provide executive-level leadership in coordinating and integrating multi-functional technical projects that involve significant complexity, risk, and strategic importance.
• Partner with the VP to develop and deliver high-impact presentations communicating status, technical resolution, strategic direction, or promotion of TRISO-X products and capabilities.
• Lead enterprise-scale development of major technical descriptions and deliverables for customer proposals and competitive bids.
• Mentor senior staff in developing new or enhanced products and services based on emerging technical advancements and market trends.
• Oversee development and review of technical documentation supporting major products, systems, or services.
• Collaborate with the VP to establish engineering governance, procedures, and processes that define and enforce technical requirements across the organization.
• Develop and execute long-range business and technical strategies that strengthen TRISO-X’s competitive positioning and operational excellence
• Champion professional development, succession planning, and capability-building for engineering personnel across the division.
• Demonstrate exemplary professional conduct in all communications and interactions, modeling TRISO-X values and leadership expectations.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Job Profile Minimum Qualifications

• Bachelor of Science (BS) degree in engineering or related STEM field; advanced degree preferred.
• Twenty or more years of engineering experience.
• Ten or more years of experience in the nuclear industry.
• Ten or more years of engineering leadership experience with enterprise-level impact.
• Deep knowledge of nuclear regulations, regulatory reviews and inspections, nuclear codes and standards, budgeting, planning and scheduling, nuclear plant operations, nuclear safety analyses, and associated policies and procedures.
• Experience with nuclear quality programs and large industrial manufacturing environments, with proven ability to collaborate effectively across all organizational levels, teaming partners, and customer groups.
• Demonstrated knowledge of current industry technologies and trends relevant to nuclear fuel engineering and manufacturing

Location: 151 Lafayette Drive, Suite 300, Oak Ridge, TN

Work Site Expectations: 5 days in office

Travel: 10% potential

Hours: 8:00am-5:00pm, Mon-Fri

Compensation

As required by Maryland and other applicable state law, X Energy, LLC (X-energy) lists the expected compensation range for a publicly advertised job opportunity based upon the job requirements (e.g. education/training, experience, skill sets, etc.). Individual candidates who meet the job requirements for the posted position will be offered a salary within this range based on their respective levels of education/training, experience, and other qualifications unique to them. Salary ranges may vary based on the specific office location and region referenced in the posting to take into consideration differences in cost of living and may not be reflective of all regions. Please note that compensation ranges listed for US job postings reflect base salary only and do not include benefits or other incentives.

Offers within the posted salary range are commensurate with the individual’s qualifications for the position, along with a view on internal equity, market data, and room for growth. The salary range for this position is:

$198,188 to $248,063
