Tech Lead, Japan

ABOUT YOU We are looking for an Tech lead, APAC who combines strong hands-on technical depth with proven people leadership to join our team supporting Xsolla's core business in the APAC market. The ideal candidate is fluent in both Nihongo and English, comfortable acting as the technical bridge between local partners and our global engineering organization, and experienced leading a small team of engineers across regions. You'll be responsible for understanding and translating local partner requirements into technical solutions, contributing hands-on to web development, and managing and mentoring a small distributed engineering team. This is a role for someone who is equally comfortable in a code review, a partner meeting, and a 1:1 with a direct report.

Responsibilities

• Serve as the primary technical point of contact for local partners' requests related to Xsolla's core business, translating business and partner needs into clear technical requirements.
• Design, build, and maintain webpages/web applications supporting local partner and business needs.
• Manage, mentor, and grow a small team of engineers based in other regions, including performance management, career development, and day-to-day technical guidance.
• Collaborate closely with regional business, BD, and product stakeholders to ensure technical delivery aligns with partner and market needs.
• Balance hands-on technical contribution with team leadership responsibilities.
• Drive best practices in code quality, delivery timelines, and engineering processes across the team.
• Communicate effectively across both technical and non-technical, and both Nihongo- and English-speaking, stakeholders.
• Escalate and help resolve technical or partner-facing issues in a timely manner.

Qualifications & Skills

• 10+ years of overall technical/engineering experience.
• 3+ years of experience managing or leading engineers/engineering teams.
• Fluent in both Nihongo and English (written and spoken).
• Proven experience developing and maintaining webpages/web applications.
• Experience managing distributed or cross-regional teams.
• Strong communication skills, with the ability to translate between local partner needs and technical execution.
• Comfortable working directly with local partners on requirements gathering and problem-solving.

Nice to Have

• Experience in adtech or offer monetization platforms (strong plus).
• Background in payments, gaming, or digital commerce.
• Experience working with global/cross-functional engineering organizations.
