Job Summary:

The Senior Welder is responsible for performing advanced welding and fabrication operations while ensuring the highest standards of safety, quality, productivity, and workmanship. This position serves as a technical resource within the manufacturing team, providing guidance and mentoring to welders, assisting with process improvements, and supporting the production of high-quality products that meet Xylem's customer and engineering requirements.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Perform complex welding operations using MIG, TIG, Flux-Cored, and Stick welding processes as required.
• Read and interpret engineering drawings, blueprints, welding symbols, specifications, and work instructions.
• Set up, adjust, and operate welding and fabrication equipment safely and efficiently.
• Weld carbon steel, stainless steel, and other materials to required specifications and quality standards.
• Conduct fit-up, layout, tack welding, fabrication, and assembly activities.
• Inspect completed welds for dimensional accuracy, appearance, and compliance with quality requirements.
• Troubleshoot welding defects and recommend corrective actions.
• Assist supervisors and manufacturing engineers in improving welding processes, productivity, and quality performance.
• Train, mentor, and support less-experienced welders and new employees.
• Participate in root cause analysis and continuous improvement initiatives.
• Maintain accurate production and quality documentation.
• Support lean manufacturing, 5S, and operational excellence activities.
• Ensure compliance with all safety, environmental, and company policies.
• Perform material handling and equipment operation as required.
• Collaborate with Quality, Engineering, Maintenance, and Production teams to resolve manufacturing issues.

Safety Responsibilities

• Follow all OSHA, company, and facility safety requirements.
• Properly utilize required PPE, including welding helmets, gloves, safety glasses, hearing protection, and respiratory protection where required.
• Identify and report unsafe conditions and near misses.
• Promote a proactive safety culture throughout the facility.
• Participate in safety meetings, audits, and corrective action activities.

Required Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED.
• Minimum 3-5 years of welding and fabrication experience in a manufacturing environment.
• Demonstrated proficiency in MIG and TIG welding.
• Ability to read and interpret blueprints, welding symbols, and engineering drawings.
• Strong knowledge of welding codes, specifications, and quality requirements.
• Experience using precision measuring tools and inspection equipment.
• Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
• Strong communication and teamwork skills.
• Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and perform physically demanding work.

Preferred

• AWS welding certification or equivalent qualification.
• Technical school, vocational training, or associate degree in Welding Technology.
• Experience with stainless steel fabrication and pressure-containing products.
• Prior leadership, mentoring, or lead welder experience.
• Experience working in a lean manufacturing environment.
• Forklift and overhead crane experience.

Physical Requirements

• Frequent standing, walking, bending, kneeling, and reaching.
• Ability to lift and move materials up to 50 pounds.
• Ability to work in varying manufacturing conditions, including heat, noise, and welding fumes.
• Visual acuity sufficient to inspect weld quality and read technical documents.
