Подготовка к работе. Нужно проверить работоспособность ультразвукового аппарата, подготовить необходимые датчики, а также обеспечить наличие расходных материалов: геля, одноразовых салфеток, перчаток. Ещё в эту задачу входит подготовка самого кабинета. Работа с пациентом. Медсестра встречает человека, подробно объясняет, как пройдёт исследование, отвечает на вопросы. Она помогает пациенту раздеться, занять нужное положение на кушетке. Также она проверяет наличие информированного согласия и при необходимости проводит специальную подготовку (например, даёт рекомендации по диете перед УЗИ органов брюшной полости). Ассистирование врачу. Во время процедуры медсестра помогает: наносит гель на кожу пациента, позиционирует и удерживает датчик в нужном положении, обеспечивает удобное положение тела пациента. Она следит за состоянием человека во время исследования, отвечает на его вопросы и обеспечивает комфорт. Иногда в её задачи входит и забор биологического материала по назначению врача. Медсестра регистрирует пациентов в журналах учёта, заполняет паспортную часть медицинских карт, фиксирует результаты исследований. Также она ведёт учёт расходных материалов и других документов, необходимых для работы кабинета.
