How do I tailor my resume to a job description?
Read the posting twice and write down what it demands, apart from what it only prefers. Cut the bullets that answer neither. Order what is left so the demands are answered in the top third. Then restate each bullet with the posting's own word where that is true, and add the number you already know. Leave dates, titles and employers alone.
How many keywords should I include?
Every term you use needs a sentence behind it that you would be glad to be asked about. A CV with eight terms you can back beats one with thirty that fall apart on the screening call.
Should I change my job title to match the posting?
No. Your title is a fact about your employment, and it gets checked. If your real title undersells you, keep it and let the bullets carry the scope.
Does an ATS reject me for missing keywords?
Not on its own. The recruiter's search across the applicant pool is a keyword search, and a CV without the posting's words never comes up in it. One of our 25 readers is an ATS screener for exactly that reason.
