The Account Executive, TN/AL/AR Academic is a field-based position responsible for the overall success of our Chromium and Visium franchises and for driving Xenium and Atera consumables utilization within top- and mid-tier academic and government accounts. The territory covers academic and government accounts across Tennessee, Alabama, and Arkansas, with key accounts including St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, Vanderbilt University, the University of Alabama at Birmingham, and the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences. The ideal candidate will possess strong technical knowledge in Single Cell or Spatial Biology, demonstrating technical credibility to effectively consult with customers and influence key decisions on technology and product choices. A demonstrated ability to build trusted relationships with scientific thought leaders and key institutional stakeholders is essential. Additionally, the role requires strong business acumen to build successful account and territory plans, translating territory strategy into business results.

What You Will Be Doing

  • Strategic Account Planning: Develop and execute territory and account plans to meet or exceed business goals, with particular emphasis on major academic medical centers, shared resource cores, and high-value research programs.
  • Customer Consultation: Apply technical and commercial knowledge to help customers evaluate technology solutions, project economics, throughput, and workflow requirements.
  • Sales Management: Proactively create and advance opportunities through strong prospecting, qualification, and closing skills. Maintain clear next steps, understand customer decision-making and purchasing processes, and consistently manage forecasting, pipeline, and sales activity through the CRM system.
  • Customer Relationships: Establish trusted relationships across scientific, operational, and purchasing stakeholders. Understand research priorities and institutional dynamics, and ensure timely communication, proactive follow-through, and high customer satisfaction.
  • Market Knowledge: Develop deep knowledge of customer ecosystems, funding sources, and decision-makers. Identify emerging research programs and opportunities to expand adoption across laboratories and departments.
  • Team Coordination and Collaboration: Coordinate account execution with Science and Technology Advisors, Field Application Scientists, Spatial Sales Executives, and Service Teams. Establish clear responsibilities and maintain ownership of customer communication and follow-through from initial engagement through adoption and ongoing utilization.
  • Post-Purchase Support: Manage customer relationships following purchase to drive sustained consumables utilization, coordinate issue resolution, and develop new research opportunities within the installed base.
  • Business Planning: Conduct regular account business reviews and develop growth plans informed by historical purchasing, research pipelines, funding availability, and institutional budget cycles. Translate these insights into actionable priorities and accurate, timely forecasts.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Biology, Molecular Biology, Biochemistry or related field; or the equivalent knowledge and experience.
  • Minimum of 4 years of relevant Life Science sales experience, with a record of achieving sales goals and growing strategic accounts.
  • Strong technical knowledge of single-cell or spatial biology tools, with the ability to develop proficiency across the broader portfolio and translate scientific needs into practical solutions.
  • Ability to maintain regular field presence across a multistate territory, including recurring visits to priority accounts and travel as needed to support business goals.
  • Proven ability to establish long-term customer relationships, independently advance opportunities, and close new business.
  • Strong customer-facing skills, including building trust, presenting solutions, navigating institutional purchasing and grant funding processes, and providing timely, consistent follow-through.
  • Can be based in Memphis or Nashville.

Preferred Skills/Qualifications

  • Masters or PhD in Biology, Molecular Biology, Biochemistry or related field

Why it works

3×

more interviews than doing it yourself with ChatGPT.

ChatGPT writes a CV and never learns what happened to it. We see every reply. For each CV we know:

  • How it was written, and how the review scored it
  • When we applied, and how long after the posting went up
  • Which posting, which company, which city
  • Who got the interview, and who heard nothing

That is how we know which CVs get called.
