Врач-психиатр детский обязан учитывать особенности детского организма: незавершенность и продолжающееся развитие нервно-психической системы ребенка, большие компенсаторные возможности, возрастной изоморфизм, преобладание непсихотических форм психических расстройств, а также особый характер зависимого положения ребенка в семье. В своей работе врач-психиатр детский должен поддерживать постоянный контакт с педиатрами, логопедами, невропатологами и другими детскими специалистами. Врач-психиатр детский оказывает специализированную помощь больному по месту его постоянной прописки. Осмотр ребёнка осуществляется обязательно в присутствии родителей или опекунов, которых нужно проинформировать о выявленных нарушениях у детей и о необходимости назначения того или иного лечения (Закон РФ О психиатрической помощи и гарантиях прав граждан при её оказании ). С первого посещения врач-психиатр детский должен добиваться установления доверительных отношений с пациентом и родителями, снять их настороженность по отношению к психиатру. Кроме этого, врач-психиатр детский должен отвечать в письменном виде на запросы (согласно приказу № 225 МЗ РФ от 21.03.1981г.), оформлять документы для решения вопроса об установлении инвалидности ребёнка, на получение социальных льгот, направлять детей на консультации, обследования, на городские и краевые медико-педагогические комиссии по определению профиля обучения, с подробными выписками из истории болезни, а также оформлять документацию при переводе подростков. В числе пациентов врача-психиатра детского есть инвалиды с детства, которые не могут посещать поликлинику и требуют систематического наблюдения врачом и медицинской сестрой на дому. Срочная госпитализация в краевую психиатрическую больницу производится с согласия родителей. При ухудшении состояния ребёнка с двигательным возбуждением, при тенденции к самоубийству, нанесении себе или окружающим телесных повреждений, при бродяжничестве госпитализация проводится согласно статусу (ст.ст.23,29 Закона РФ О психиатрической помощи и гарантиях прав граждан при её оказании ). Основными задачами врача-психиатра детского являются проведение лечебных и социальных мероприятий, направленных на обеспечение правильного психического развития детей, проживающих на территории города, снижение среди них психической заболеваемости.
