ухаживать за маломобильными больными, помогать проводить гигиенические процедуры; перемещать в постели лежачих пациентов; сопровождать больных, которым опасно ходить самостоятельно; кормить больных, которые не могут сделать это самостоятельно; своевременно доставлять биоматериал в лабораторию; следить за тем, как себя чувствуют больные, и информировать об этом их лечащих врачей; уметь оказывать первую доврачебную помощь; каждый день помогать переодеваться малоподвижным пациентам, несколько раз в сутки менять подкладные пелёнки, а постельное бельё по мере загрязнения, но не реже раза в неделю; вместе со старшей медсестрой проводить ежедневное обследование больного: измерять температуру пациента, его дыхание и артериальное давление. Также в обязанности младшей медсестры может входить поддержание санитарного состояния больничных палат, обеспечение надлежащих условий хранения и использования предметов, предназначенных для проведения медицинского ухода, замена белья, сбор и уничтожение медотход

Младший медицинский персонал обязан соблюдать следующие правила медицинской этики и деонтологии: терпеливо и чутко относиться к больным; добросовестно выполнять свои обязанности, помогая в работе врачам, фельдшерам, медсёстрам; не брать на себя обязанности врачей, давая неверные рекомендации больным и их родственникам; знать о правах пациента, одинаково относясь ко всем больным; не обращаться к больным на ты, исключать из общения любые виды фамильярности; поддерживать обеспечение душевного и физического комфорта всех окружающих.
