The posting

The High Performance Computing Chapter at IAIC, A*STAR, is seeking a scientist to develop efficient and intelligent computing methods for AI and scientific applications. The role connects advances in AI algorithms, computing systems and scientific workflows to improve computational efficiency and enable more effective use of computing resources.

Research opportunities include efficient AI models and agents, AI-assisted system optimisation, and the integration of AI with scientific modelling and simulation. The successful candidate will work with local and international collaborators to develop and evaluate research methods and reusable software. The specific research focus will reflect the candidate’s expertise and project needs.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop methods that improve the efficiency of AI models and agents, considering the relationship between algorithm design, application requirements and computing resources.
  • Investigate AI-assisted approaches to computing system optimisation, including resource management, scheduling or workflow execution.
  • Develop approaches that combine AI with scientific modelling and simulation to accelerate scientific workflows while preserving application quality.
  • Implement and evaluate research prototypes against appropriate baselines, producing reproducible evidence of improvements in performance, resource efficiency or scalability.
  • Collaborate with research partners to translate findings into publications, reusable software and technical demonstrations.

The appointee will contribute to selected research areas according to expertise and project needs; expertise across all areas is not expected.

Essential Requirements

  • A PhD in Computer Science, Electrical/Computer Engineering, or a related discipline.
  • Research knowledge and experience in at least one of the following areas:Efficient AI, machine learning systems, large AI models or AI agents.High-performance, parallel or distributed computing.Computing system optimisation, resource management or scheduling.Scientific computing, numerical simulation or AI for Science.System software or workflow platforms for AI and scientific computing.
  • Programming skills in Python and/or C/C++, with the ability to implement and evaluate research ideas.
  • Demonstrated research ability or strong potential to publish in leading international conferences and journals.
  • Ability to explain research methods and findings clearly and work with collaborators to deliver research outcomes.

Desirable Experience

Experience in one or more of the following would be advantageous:

  • Hardware-aware AI optimisation, model compression or efficient model deployment.
  • Applying AI or learning-based methods to computing systems or workflow optimisation.
  • Integrating AI models with scientific simulation or modelling workflows.
  • Developing reusable research software or evaluating applications across different computing platforms.

Applicants are not expected to have experience in every listed area.

Why it works

3×

more interviews than doing it yourself with ChatGPT.

ChatGPT writes a CV and never learns what happened to it. We see every reply. For each CV we know:

  • How it was written, and how the review scored it
  • When we applied, and how long after the posting went up
  • Which posting, which company, which city
  • Who got the interview, and who heard nothing

That is how we know which CVs get called.
