The posting

Talkiatry is looking for a Staff Product Designer to shape the future of mental health care experiences across multiple strategic product areas. You'll lead design work spanning our Clinical AI products, patient portal experiences, and design system evolution—helping define how patients interact with psychiatric care in both AI-assisted and human-centered contexts.

In this role, you'll divide your time across several high-impact areas: designing AI-powered experiences that support patients between sessions, improving core patient portal flows that help people access and manage their care, and serving as a craft leader who modernizes our design system and raises the visual quality bar across all Talkiatry products.

As a Staff designer, your impact will extend beyond any single product area. You'll work closely with product, engineering, clinical, and AI partners across multiple teams, bringing both deep craft and strategic thinking to ambiguous problems. You'll help establish interaction patterns for emerging technologies while also refining foundational experiences that serve patients every day.

We're looking for a designer who is energized by variety and ambiguity, capable of moving between AI-enabled experiences and core product flows, and equally passionate about interaction design, systems thinking, and exceptional visual craft.

About Talkiatry:

Talkiatry is transforming mental health care by making high-quality psychiatry more accessible, human, and sustainable for both patients and clinicians. Co-founded by a patient and a triple-board-certified psychiatrist, we were built to solve one of healthcare’s most urgent challenges: millions of people struggle to access mental health care, while clinicians face growing administrative burden and burnout. Through our technology-powered, in-network platform, we’re changing that, creating a better experience for patients and empowering clinicians to focus on delivering exceptional care.

Today, Talkiatry is the largest dedicated psychiatry practice in the U.S., with 750+ psychiatrists, 250+ therapists, and more than two million patient visits delivered nationwide. At our scale, every innovation has real impact. Every workflow we improve, every technology solution we build, and every patient experience we redesign helps thousands of clinicians provide better care to hundreds of thousands of patients. We’re not just growing quickly — we’re redefining how behavioral healthcare is delivered in America.

Joining Talkiatry means joining a mission-driven team that is solving complex problems at scale, driving meaningful change in healthcare, and building the future of mental health care with compassion, innovation, and purpose.

You will:

  • Lead product design across multiple strategic areas, including Clinical AI experiences, patient portal flows, and design system evolution.
  • Design AI-powered experiences that support patients between scheduled psychiatry sessions, from early concepts through launch and iteration.
  • Define how patients interact with conversational AI, helping establish patterns for experiences that may not yet have conventional design precedents.
  • Improve core patient portal experiences, including intake flows, appointment management, visit preparation, and other touchpoints that help patients access and navigate their care.
  • Translate complex AI capabilities and limitations into intuitive, transparent, and trustworthy product experiences.
  • Partner deeply with Product, Engineering, AI/ML, Clinical, and other cross-functional teams across multiple product areas to shape product strategy and determine what we build.
  • Prototype and test interaction patterns—from conversational AI flows to traditional web and mobile experiences—to learn quickly and reduce uncertainty.
  • Advocate for patient needs while helping teams navigate safety, trust, accessibility, and usability considerations across both AI-powered and traditional product experiences.
  • Conduct user research and usability testing to validate design decisions and identify opportunities for improvement.
  • Use research, product data, experimentation, and qualitative feedback to continuously improve experiences after launch.
  • Bring exceptional interaction and visual design craft to all your work, from early product thinking through highly polished final execution.
  • Serve as a senior individual-contributor design leader, influencing product and design decisions across your areas of ownership and beyond.
  • Lead the evolution of Talkiatry's design system, defining the next generation of our visual design language and establishing patterns that scale across web, mobile, and emerging interaction models.
  • Raise the craft bar across the Product Design team through thoughtful critique, mentorship, collaboration, and high-quality example-setting.

You have:

  • 7+ years of product design experience, including experience owning complex digital products from discovery through implementation and iteration.
  • A portfolio that demonstrates strong product thinking, interaction design, and exceptional visual/UI craft. A portfolio is required for consideration.
  • Strong experience designing rich web and native mobile products.
  • Experience operating with a high degree of autonomy and leading design within ambiguous or zero-to-one product spaces.
  • Experience designing products where trust and transparency are critical to the user experience.
  • Strong systems thinking and the ability to design individual experiences while considering the broader product ecosystem.
  • Deep understanding of interaction design, information architecture, visual hierarchy, typography, layout, and responsive interface design.
  • Strong user research skills with the ability to independently plan and conduct user research, usability testing, and synthesize insights to inform design decisions.
  • Experience creating and evolving scalable design systems, or a strong point of view on how systems can improve both product quality and team velocity.
  • Strong prototyping skills and the ability to communicate complex interactions before they are fully built.
  • Experience collaborating closely with product managers and engineers and contributing meaningfully to product strategy, not just execution.
  • Strong communication and storytelling skills, including the ability to explain design rationale, facilitate productive critique, and influence senior cross-functional partners.
  • Curiosity about emerging technologies and a willingness to learn through experimentation when established design patterns do not yet exist.

We'd be especially excited if you have:

  • Experience designing conversational interfaces, chat-based products, voice experiences, or AI assistants.
  • Experience designing products powered by AI, machine learning, or large language models.
  • Experience establishing interaction patterns for emerging technologies where best practices are still being defined.
  • Experience in healthcare or regulated industries.
  • Experience helping establish or significantly evolve the visual language of a product or design system.
  • Experience designing patient-facing or consumer health products.

This role includes work on emerging AI experiences, but we don't expect candidates to have spent years designing AI products. Genuine enthusiasm for the space, strong foundational product-design skills, and evidence that you can thoughtfully tackle unfamiliar interaction problems matter more than having a particular AI job title on your résumé.

Healthcare experience is not required, but is a plus.

Why it works

3×

more interviews than doing it yourself with ChatGPT.

ChatGPT writes a CV and never learns what happened to it. We see every reply. For each CV we know:

  • How it was written, and how the review scored it
  • When we applied, and how long after the posting went up
  • Which posting, which company, which city
  • Who got the interview, and who heard nothing

That is how we know which CVs get called.
