About Us Action Against Hunger USA is part of the Action Against Hunger International network, a global leader in the fight against hunger operating in over 50 countries with programs focused on nutrition, health, climate resilience, food security, emergency response, and resilience building. We manage operations in Kenya, South Sudan, Somalia, Tanzania, Uganda, Ethiopia, Zambia, and Haiti, working alongside communities to address the root causes of hunger and strengthen resilience. We are seeking a Data Management Intern to support data management, reporting, dashboard updates, digital information systems, and routine data quality processes for our MEAL and Data Management function in Nairobi, Kenya. About the Role The Data Management Intern will provide day-to-day support to Action Against Hunger’s data management, reporting, and digital information systems. Reporting to the Data Manager, this role will assist with data capture, data cleaning, data quality checks, dashboard updates, user support, documentation, and report preparation for MEAL and program teams. This internship will provide practical exposure to DHIS2 operations, Excel/Google Sheets, mobile data collection tools, Power BI dashboards, and basic data interoperability workflows. This position is ideal for an early-career data, MEAL, public health, or information systems professional with strong attention to detail, a willingness to learn, and an interest in humanitarian data systems. Key Responsibilities

Support routine data cleaning, validation, and preparation of datasets for MEAL and program reporting. Assist with basic configuration updates in DHIS2 and other data systems, including data elements, indicators, datasets, forms, option sets, and user access settings. Support routine data quality checks to identify missing values, duplicates, outliers, inconsistencies, and reporting gaps. Assist with dashboard and report updates in DHIS2, Power BI, Excel, and Google Sheets. Support routine data exports for monthly, quarterly, donor, and internal reporting processes. Assist with testing DHIS2 forms, dashboards, reports, and digital tools before deployment or release to users. Document bugs, user feedback, system issues, and follow-up actions in organized trackers. Provide basic first-level user support, including login assistance, account setup support, how-to guidance, and simple troubleshooting. Support the preparation and maintenance of user guides, quick-reference sheets, FAQs, training slides, standard operating procedures, and knowledge management materials. Assist with training coordination, including attendance tracking, practical exercises, and participant follow-up. Support basic data import, export, extraction, cleaning, and transformation processes using approved tools and guidance. Participate in MEAL, data, and program meetings as required and contribute to continuous improvement of data tools, workflows, dashboards, and reporting templates.

Who We’re Looking For

Bachelor’s degree, diploma, or ongoing studies in Statistics, Data Science, Information Systems, Computer Science, Public Health, Monitoring and Evaluation, Project Management, or a related field. Training or coursework in data management, database systems, monitoring and evaluation, analytics, or information systems is an added advantage. Demonstrated interest in humanitarian programming, MEAL, digital data systems, or public health data management. Basic knowledge of data collection, data entry, data cleaning, and data quality assurance principles. Good working knowledge of Microsoft Excel or Google Sheets, including basic formulas, sorting, filtering, and data validation. Familiarity with DHIS2, Power BI, Kobo/ODK, CommCare, mobile data collection tools, SQL, or scripting tools is an added advantage. Strong attention to detail and ability to identify inconsistencies, missing data, duplicate records, and reporting gaps. Ability to follow instructions, standard operating procedures, checklists, and testing scripts accurately. Good documentation skills, including the ability to prepare user guides, trackers, meeting notes, and simple reports. Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to support users patiently and professionally. Ability to work in a dynamic environment, manage assigned tasks, meet deadlines, and ask for support when needed. High level of confidentiality and commitment to responsible handling of program and beneficiary data. Fluency in written and spoken English is required. Knowledge of Kiswahili is an added advantage.
