The posting

Each of us cares about someone who will need medicines. That’s why our vision is to repeatedly beat the odds to deliver breakthrough medicines to patients who need them. We pursue truth and scientific rigour and have the courage to work at the edge of the unknown.

We are looking for a highly motivated and experienced Scientist II or Senior Scientist to join our Separation Science team at AbCellera. You’ll help build our capabilities to analyze and characterize proteins, supporting the advancement of early-phase monoclonal antibody CMC programs. Working hands-on, you’ll develop and optimize primarily separations-based workflows that enable our team to move quickly and confidently. You’ll also share your expertise with teammates and contribute to our analytical approach for CMC activities. If you’re excited to apply your separation science skills to the next generation of antibody therapeutics, we’d love to hear from you.

How you might spend your days

  • Developing new separations-based (LC, CE, and icIEF) analytical methods in support of release testing and product characterization
  • Generating high quality data in support of method development, qualification, and product characterization
  • Establishing laboratory workflows and creating best practices for the Analytical Development Separation Sciences sub-function
  • Evaluating new technologies to improve throughput, precision, accuracy, capabilities, and overall quality of separations methods
  • Collaborating with CMC technical teams in the form of technical guidance, investigation support, data generation, interpretation, and presentation
  • Publishing and communicating technical reports on separations-based investigations and findings to support regulatory submissions
  • Providing technical expertise for the separations team and mentoring junior team members

We’d love to hear from you if

  • You have a PhD in biology, biochemistry, chemical biology, or a related discipline plus 2-5 years of related industry experience (Scientist II) or 5+ years (Senior Scientist); candidates with an MSc and significant relevant industry experience will also be considered
  • You have hands-on experience performing and developing methods for analytical techniques such as SEC, RP-LC, CE, and icIEF
  • You have demonstrated expertise in therapeutic biophysical and biochemical protein characterization focusing on protein separation technologies, and/or protein analytics in either academia or industry
  • You are an outstanding communicator and team player, motivated about the opportunity to work with a team on challenging problems that matter
  • You have familiarity with electronic lab notebooks (e.g. Benchling), experimental data capture (e.g. Empower), and the associated 21 CFR part 11 compliance requirements
  • You have knowledge of regulatory filings such as CTAs, INDs, BLAs, IMPDs
  • You have familiarity with regulatory requirements as it pertains to CMC activities for monoclonal antibodies (FDA, EMA, ICH, etc)
  • You enjoy sharing your knowledge and have experience guiding junior scientists in the lab

What we offer

AbCellera’s hiring range for the Scientist II role is CAD $88,000 - $110,000 annually and CAD $112,000 - $132,000 annually for the Senior Scientist role, commensurate with your education and job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. In addition to base salary, we offer equity, an annual bonus dependent on individual and company performance, and a 6% (non-match) RRSP contribution.

You will have a CAD $1,500 annual Active Lifestyle Allowance, annual vacation, professional development opportunities, and comprehensive health benefits. Scientific and technical mentorship are a priority. And you’ll find a strong sense of community and connections across AbCellera through our work, clubs, and socials.

About AbCellera

Creating medicines is the most important work we can do.

We are a clinical-stage biotechnology company focused on discovering and developing antibody-based medicines in the areas of endocrinology, women’s health, immunology, and oncology. We have built a platform for advancing antibody drug programs from target to clinic, and we are using it to build our internal pipeline.

Today, our pipeline includes two drug candidates in clinical development, two preclinical development candidates (DCs) in Investigational New Drug (IND)-enabling activities, and more than 20 active discovery programs across multiple modalities and indications.

We believe that when tenacious people share a vision and work together, they can truly have a positive impact. That’s why we hire for character and intelligence, not just for CVs or experience.

We look for people with drive and energy. People we trust. People who need to know their days are being well spent. That their work really matters. In the end, our success will be measured by the impact of our medicines.

Why it works

3×

more interviews than doing it yourself with ChatGPT.

ChatGPT writes a CV and never learns what happened to it. We see every reply. For each CV we know:

  • How it was written, and how the review scored it
  • When we applied, and how long after the posting went up
  • Which posting, which company, which city
  • Who got the interview, and who heard nothing

That is how we know which CVs get called.
