The posting

Cambridge, UK.

Full-Time Position.

Hybrid – This is a field-based role with 75% travel across UK and EU.

About Abselion

Abselion is a life science tools company headquartered in Cambridge, UK, working on the next generation of analytical technologies. We have developed a benchtop analytical instrument, called Amperia, which uses proprietary Redox Electrochemical Detection (RED) technology to quantify proteins and viral vectors directly from crude samples in minutes, without purification, and without specialist training.

We work with teams across protein expression, process development and in academia, biotech and pharma across the globe who are tired of waiting days for analytical results that should take minutes.

We are a team who care deeply about the science, move quickly, and believe that the best outcomes come from genuinely understanding and helping customers solve real problems.

The role

As the Field Applications Scientist, you will own the customer-facing technical sales process for Amperia. You will be the scientist customers meet first, the person who understands their workflow, runs the demonstration, and gives them the confidence to use Amperia.

As part of the technical sales process, you will run discovery calls, deliver hands-on instrument demonstrations, and build confidence with customers. You will collaborate with the other teams to convert scientific curiosity into adoption, and to channel real customer feedback back into the business. This is a high-autonomy role for someone who is equally comfortable at the bench and in front of an audience. You should expect to spend up to 75% of your time travelling to customer sites and conferences across the UK and EU. When not travelling to customers or conferences, you will be required to work onsite at our Cambridge office. You may be asked to occasionally travel to the US for field events.

Key responsibilities

  • Own the technical sales process from start to end.
  • Run discovery calls with prospective customers to understand their workflows and quantification challenges.
  • Run technical calls to translate customer requirements into sound demo proposals.
  • Support the broader sales process alongside the Sales team, including networking and follow-up.
  • Plan and execute end-to-end instrument demonstrations primarily in the UK and EU.
  • Attend conferences primarily in the UK and EU.
  • Act as the voice of the customer internally, feeding structured feedback to the Science, Product, Sales and Marketing teams.

Must haves

  • Must be able to travel to the UK and other European countries, as well as the US, and Canada.
  • Willingness to travel internationally for up to 75% of your workdays.
  • Valid driver's licence and access to a car, and willingness to use it for UK site visits. The travel is fully reimbursed.
  • The role involves transporting and setting up the instrument at customer sites. Candidates should be comfortable handling equipment weighing up to 20 kg.

Experience & Skills

Essential

  • An M.Sc. in a relevant field plus 3+ years of industry experience, or a Ph.D. in a relevant field plus 1+ year of industry experience. Relevant fields include antibody development, protein expression and upstream or downstream process development.
  • Experience as a Field Application Scientist/Specialist is a bonus.
  • Excellent pipetting technique and confidence running experiments independently under time pressure.
  • Practical experience using one or more analytical instruments and techniques for protein quantification (e.g. ELISA, BLI, SPR, SEC-HPLC, or similar).
  • Strong communication skills - clear, precise, and comfortable presenting to scientific audiences.

What we offer

  • Dynamic and fast-paced work environment in a growing Series A biotech.
  • Opportunity to build the technical sales team from the ground up.
  • Be part of a great team working at the intersection of biology, engineering, and data science.
  • Salary £ 40,000 - £ 55,000 plus a discretionary, performance-based bonus.
  • Share option scheme.
  • Travel and equipment costs fully covered.

Start date October 2026 or by arrangement.

Primary location Cambridge, UK (field-based).

Recruitment process:

Three-stage interview.

  • First stage - Introductory call via a Teams meeting.
  • Second stage - Technical call via a Teams meeting.
  • Third stage - On-site (Cambridge, UK) technical interview including a practical component and meet the team.

Why it works

3×

more interviews than doing it yourself with ChatGPT.

ChatGPT writes a CV and never learns what happened to it. We see every reply. For each CV we know:

  • How it was written, and how the review scored it
  • When we applied, and how long after the posting went up
  • Which posting, which company, which city
  • Who got the interview, and who heard nothing

That is how we know which CVs get called.
