Job Description
At Pullman, we believe great hospitality begins with how we care for our own people. Being paid accurately and on time is the foundation of that care.
Pullman East Melbourne is looking for an accomplished Payroll Controller to take full ownership of payroll across the hotel. This is a role for someone who sees payroll as more than a transaction: it is a promise to every team member, and a central part of how the hotel is run.
This is also a rare chance to shape the future of payroll at the hotel. Pullman East Melbourne is preparing to move from Humanforce and WageEasy to Zambion / Ready Workforce, a single integrated workforce management and payroll platform. As Payroll Controller, you will play a key part in this launch, setting it up to be accurate, compliant and built to last.
Reporting to the Director of Finance and working closely with the Director of People & Culture, you will be the hotel's authority on pay, leave and payroll systems. You will be trusted to:
- Own the full payroll cycle for salaried, full-time, part-time and casual colleagues, with consistent accuracy and timeliness
- Apply the Hospitality Industry (General) Award 2020 with confidence, interpreting penalties, overtime, allowances and leave correctly
- Protect the hotel's compliance across STP Phase 2, PAYG, superannuation, Victorian payroll tax and WorkCover
- Lead strong payroll controls, including regular audits and annualised salary reconciliations, and resolve any issues decisively
- Act as system owner for Payroll and HRIS, improving how it works, building in automation and simplifying processes
- Give leaders clear insight through payroll journals, accruals, leave liability and labour-cost reporting
- Be a trusted advisor to leaders and colleagues, explaining pay matters clearly, sensitively and with discretion
Qualifications
What You Bring
- A proven background in end-to-end payroll (typically 3 to 5+ years) within a complex, high-volume or shift-based business preferably in hotel environment
- Deep knowledge of the Hospitality Award, the Fair Work Act and the National Employment Standards
- A thorough understanding of Victorian payroll tax, WorkCover, superannuation and Single Touch Payroll obligations
- Hands-on experience with payroll and time and attendance systems (Zambion / Ready Workforce highly regarded)
- Advanced Excel and analytical skills
- Excellent attention to detail, sound judgement, and a reputation for integrity and confidentiality
- Calm, polished communication that builds trust at every level of the business
- Experience in hospitality or premium hotels, or a Certificate IV in Payroll, will be highly regarded.
