For decades, the NHS has struggled with fragmented systems that make simple tasks feel impossible. We’re changing that by building a single, system-wide platform that connects everyone through communication.

What started as a way for GPs to text a patient has now evolved into an all-in-one digital toolkit used by 98% of GP practices.

Our platform now powers Total Triage to manage patient demand, and Self-Book, which lets patients schedule their own appointments in seconds. We’ve automated routine care with Patient Questionnaires for long-term conditions, while Accumail finally allows staff-to-staff communication to happen instantly across different care settings. We’re now pushing the boundaries of the consultation itself with Accurx Scribe, our AI-powered note-taker that drafts medical notes in real-time.

The team

We are a mission-driven team of 80 engineers based in London and the surrounding areas, united by the challenge of fixing healthcare communication. We are innovating for the NHS at a scale and depth that has never been done before, solving the real-world problems that stand between millions of patients and the care they need.

We are a highly cross-functional group where engineering, product, data, and security collaborate as true peers. We foster a low-ego, high-impact environment that values expertise and new ideas, maintaining the high standards required to build and scale a national healthcare communication platform. Within this ecosystem, our teams operate with high autonomy, owning everything from initial system design to long-term service stability.

As a Senior Data Engineer, you’ll sit at the intersection of our Analytics Engineering, Product, and ML teams, designing and scaling the pipelines and data architecture that everything else is built on, and building the foundations that turn data from a support function into a strategic asset.

Challenges you’ll solve…

- You will design and scale a robust data architecture that handles massive event-driven communication flows across nearly every GP practice in the UK.

- You will build and own ingestion and ELT pipelines end-to-end, from source systems through to our Snowflake data warehouse, using Python and SQL in production.

- You will make and own architectural decisions that support analytics, experimentation and machine learning at scale.

- You will partner closely with Analytics Engineering, Product and ML teams to turn raw healthcare communication data into reliable, high-performance datasets they can build on.

- You will set and uphold standards for data integrity, security and reliability, in an environment where getting data right is part of keeping patients safe.

- You will lay the data foundations for our AI and ML work, helping take models from experimentation into production.

- You will take on greenfield problems, shaping how data works at Accurx from the ground up.

- You will mentor teammates and contribute to a strong engineering culture through rigorous code reviews, sprint planning and open collaboration.

You should apply if…

- You have strong, proven experience as a Data Engineer, designing and building ingestion and ETL/ELT pipelines from scratch using Python and SQL in production environments.

- You have a deep understanding of modern cloud data platforms such as Snowflake, BigQuery or Redshift, and transformation tools like dbt, with a focus on creating clean, reliable and reusable datasets.

- You are comfortable owning decisions around data architecture, and working with cloud environments and software engineering best practices like Git and CI/CD.

- You have experience, or a strong interest, in building and operationalising machine learning models, and understand how strong data foundations enable better AI outcomes.

- You think beyond pipelines. You care about how data drives real-world outcomes, especially in healthcare, and can work cross-functionally to shape problems and deliver solutions.

- You actively leverage AI tools to automate routine tasks and continuously explore ways to integrate AI into your workflows, improving quality and speed.

- £85,000 - £105,000 base salary, plus a discretionary recognition bonus for exceptional performance and impact, nominated by managers and awarded by our leadership team
