Position Description

Building Manager

Salary: Competitive Salary and Benefits

Location: Chicago, IL

Reports To: Facilities Manager

Position Overview

Supervises work activities of assigned personnel and building. Work duties include custodial and other miscellaneous tasks in order to ensure that building and facility is maintained in a healthy, safe, and sanitary manner.

Core Responsibilities

· Oversees regular janitorial and maintenance duties in assigned building, including self- performance

· Ensure that all janitorial checklists are completed as scheduled (see list below)

· Supervise janitorial staff

· Accepts instructions from the Acero Schools Facilities Manager verbally or in writing

· Provides the Acero Schools Facilities Manager with restocking information for disposable janitorial items

· Assists, where necessary, students, parents, staff and visiting members of the public who are utilizing the facilities

· Oversee building recycling program

· Safely operates all vehicle and other job related equipment: use ladders when required in work assignments

· Takes classes as required in cleaning methods and techniques, new products, safety & injury illness prevention, and workplace skills

· Projects a positive image for Acero Schools with building occupants and users

· Works closely with Acero Schools Facilities Manager to be prepared for unscheduled events, as needed

· Ensures facility security by opening/closing the building daily and escorting vendors

· Works on call as needed at any time for emergency repairs, equipment monitoring, overtime, or special needs failing outside of normal working hours

· Responds to emergency and security calls regarding vandalism, alarms, broken windows, malfunctioning sprinklers and other calls; reports incident to Supervisor appropriate

· Provide input in developing and implementing plans and programs to improve janitorial and maintenance care of facilities

· Provides input for Acero Schools Facilities Department efficiency and recommends implementation of new janitorial and maintenance techniques, materials and equipment

· Maintains and manages inventories and work requests on the 311 system

· Creates purchase orders for approval by Acero Schools Facilities Manager

· Other duties as assigned by the Acero Schools Facilities Manager

· Create and maintain staff schedule

· Complete Maintenance/Janitorial Service checklist

Qualifications

  • Essential physical and mental capabilities in the following: Interpersonal skills, memory, attention to detail, follow directions, comprehension, calculating, reading, writing, speaking, evaluating, mathematics, organizing and innovation
  • Computer literate
  • Bilingual (English and Spanish)
  • Must hold permanent residency in the United States (required)

Physical Demands

The nature of the work requires an ability to operate standard business office equipment, and the ability to communicate and exchange information, collect, compile and prepare work documents, set-up and maintain work files. Physical demands include the ability to stand, bend, reach high and low, stoop, and walk around the classroom 60% of the day. In addition, candidates must be able to lift and/or push and pull 15 to 20lbs. for short periods of time, and walk up and down stairs several times a day.

Working Conditions

Majority of work is performed in a general office environment. Position requires availability for extended hours plus non-traditional hours required to perform job duties. Also requires participation and attendance at organization-sponsored events and meetings.
