COMMUNITY PARTNERSHIPS MANAGER | ACORNS (NYC)

We've built a product for the people who make your community the community you love: they make your daily coffee, know just the way you like your hair styled, and always slot you in for a last-minute appointment. You can help us bring easy-to-use financial wellness tools to them, and build the product together with us.

Acorns is launching a new product for the tipping economy as part of its financial wellness platform, starting with barbers and hair stylists. As part of the Community team, you'll go directly into barbershops and salons, build trust with the people who work there, introduce them to Acorns and its full suite of financial wellness products, and help them take their first step toward financial security with the Acorns App. Details of the program will be shared during the interview process.

Why is this important? Most people who work on tips don’t have a 401(k), an employer match, or a way to plan their retirement. Acorns believes everyone deserves simple tools to save, invest, and build financial confidence, and this is a first step they can take on their own terms.

This is a flexible, part-time position in NYC. You set your own schedule, up to 40 hours per week. The role is expected to last 3 months, with the potential to extend based on individual performance and program needs. Employment is at-will.

What you will do at Acorns:

- Drive field outreach and conduct direct, in-person community visits to barbershops and hair salons within your designated territory.

- Walk your territory - hitting 10–15 barbershops and salons per day on foot in your city and meet the performance goals outlined for you.

- Walk-in. Open with Acorns. Educate barbers and stylists on Acorns’ financial wellness tools in plain, accessible terms - no jargon. Demo the product. Keep it under 60 seconds.

- Introduce barbers and stylists to the Acorns app and encourage them to sign up directly on their own device.

- Log every visit: shop name, contact, social handles, funnel stage, outcome.

- Build marquee shop relationships (3–5 per city) - these become your local proof points.

- Represent Acorns at industry events and meetups.

- Host local events (customer happy hours, meetups, etc)

- Capture customer content and insights (feedback, insights, content for social media)

- Prepare for future market expansion into broader cash-tip and gig economy sectors as our field strategy scales.

- Represent Acorns in the community. You are the mission made visible.

What you will bring to Acorns:

- A genuine belief that tipped workers deserve the same financial tools as anyone else.

- The ability to build trust fast. In a barbershop or salon, you may only have 60 seconds.

- Active listening. The best conversation starts with a question, not a script.

- Comfort walking in cold. Resilience when outreach doesn’t lead to engagement

- Confidence in a room. Whether it's one-on-one or a shop full of people, you hold it.

- An instinct for content - knowing when a moment is shareable and capturing it.

- Familiarity with barbershop and salon culture. You understand the room before you walk into it.

- Curiosity. You will have the opportunity to help the team build the perfect product tailored specifically for this community.

What we offer:

- Compensation: $20–$25 per hour, up to 40 hours per week. This role is also eligible for uncapped incentive compensation, with a target incentive opportunity of $1,500-$3,000 per month for team members who meet or exceed their goals, plus monthly team recognition bonuses for top performers. Incentive pay is not guaranteed and is governed by a written incentive plan.
