SAP MDG Architect

Position Overview

We are seeking a highly experienced SAP MDG Architect with deep SAP S/4HANA expertise to lead the assessment, optimization, and enhancement of an enterprise Master Data Governance environment. This role will focus on evaluating an existing MDG implementation, identifying architectural deficiencies, improving governance processes, and delivering scalable solutions that support business growth, operational efficiency, and data-driven decision-making.

The organization recently completed its SAP S/4HANA transformation and is looking for a senior MDG expert who can provide strategic leadership, architectural guidance, and hands-on recommendations to maximize the value of its investment. The successful candidate will bring extensive experience designing and optimizing SAP MDG solutions in complex, high-volume environments where data quality, governance, and process efficiency are critical.

Key Responsibilities

Perform a comprehensive assessment of the current SAP MDG architecture within an SAP S/4HANA environment, identifying design gaps, technical limitations, and process inefficiencies.

Evaluate existing master data governance processes supporting Customer, Vendor, and Material Master data.

Lead the redesign and optimization of approval workflows to reduce unnecessary approval layers, minimize record lock durations, and improve overall business agility.

Analyze and resolve challenges related to change requests, record snapshots, data overwrites, and master data synchronization across business functions.

Assess current mass maintenance capabilities and recommend scalable approaches for high-volume master data updates and governance activities.

Develop and implement governance standards, business rules, and stewardship processes to improve data quality, consistency, and compliance.

Partner with business and IT leadership to align master data strategy with broader SAP S/4HANA objectives and analytics initiatives.

Provide architectural leadership to the existing MDG team, establishing best practices and long-term governance frameworks.

Recommend and implement enhancements that improve user experience, scalability, maintainability, and operational effectiveness.

Support ongoing S/4HANA optimization efforts by ensuring master data processes are aligned with enterprise business requirements.

Required Qualifications

10+ years of SAP experience with significant focus on SAP Master Data Governance (MDG).

5+ years serving as an SAP MDG Architect, Lead Consultant, or Solution Architect.

Strong hands-on experience supporting SAP S/4HANA implementations, post-go-live stabilization efforts, and optimization initiatives.

Deep expertise in SAP MDG architecture, workflow design, governance models, change request management, and data quality frameworks.

Proven experience assessing and remediating MDG environments impacted by architectural, design, or implementation challenges.

Extensive experience with Customer, Vendor, and Material Master data governance.

Strong understanding of S/4HANA master data structures, integration points, and downstream business process impacts.

Experience designing solutions for large-scale enterprises with complex master data requirements and high transaction volumes.

Ability to engage with executive stakeholders while providing hands-on architectural guidance and recommendations.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience supporting organizations within Wholesale Distribution, Manufacturing, Consumer Products, or similarly data-intensive industries.

Experience optimizing MDG environments following an SAP S/4HANA implementation.

Knowledge of SAP Data Quality Management, data stewardship frameworks, and enterprise governance programs.

Experience addressing workflow bottlenecks, record locking issues, approval process inefficiencies, and mass data maintenance challenges.

Prior experience evaluating and improving solutions originally implemented by third-party system integrators.
