The posting

This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, which manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Senior Software Development Engineer in Test (SDET) – Digital Banking based in Canada.

The Senior SDET will play a key role in ensuring the quality, reliability, and performance of modern digital banking solutions. This hands-on engineering position focuses on designing and implementing robust test automation frameworks, validating complex banking workflows, and ensuring seamless integrations across financial platforms. Working within Agile, cross-functional teams, you will collaborate with developers, architects, product owners, and business stakeholders to deliver secure, accessible, and high-performing digital experiences. You will contribute to major digital transformation initiatives involving Canadian credit unions, banking platform modernization, and enterprise system migrations. The role also offers opportunities to improve engineering practices through CI/CD automation, AI-assisted development, and innovative quality assurance approaches.

Accountabilities

  • Design, develop, and maintain automated UI, API, and integration tests for web and mobile banking applications, ensuring comprehensive test coverage and reliable software delivery.
  • Build and enhance reusable test automation frameworks using modern technologies and integrate automated testing into Continuous Integration and Continuous Delivery (CI/CD) pipelines.
  • Develop test strategies, plans, scenarios, and traceability documentation aligned with business requirements and technical specifications.
  • Execute functional, regression, integration, end-to-end, and exploratory testing to identify defects and ensure application stability.
  • Investigate software defects, analyze system logs, identify root causes, and collaborate with development teams to implement effective solutions.
  • Validate essential digital banking functionalities, including authentication, multi-factor authentication (MFA), account balances, fund transfers, bill payments, Interac e-Transfer, mobile cheque deposits, and account servicing.
  • Test commercial banking workflows, including delegated access, user entitlements, approval processes, and business payments.
  • Verify integrations between digital banking platforms, core banking systems, payment services, lending applications, and Customer Relationship Management (CRM) solutions.
  • Support data migration testing, data reconciliation, and regression testing during banking platform replacements and modernization initiatives.
  • Participate in System Integration Testing (SIT), User Acceptance Testing (UAT), release readiness activities, and production validation.
  • Collaborate with client business teams to ensure test scenarios accurately reflect real banking operations and customer needs.
  • Contribute to Agile delivery activities, including sprint planning, backlog refinement, acceptance criteria definition, and continuous quality improvement.
  • Integrate quality engineering practices into software development workflows and establish automated quality gates, including controls for AI-assisted software development.
  • Support performance, security, and accessibility testing in collaboration with specialized teams, ensuring compliance with relevant standards.
  • Produce clear quality metrics, defect reports, test coverage assessments, and release-readiness recommendations.
  • Continuously identify opportunities to reduce manual regression testing, improve automation reliability, and strengthen confidence in production releases.
  • At least 5 years of professional experience in software testing, Quality Assurance (QA), or quality engineering, including a minimum of 3 years of hands-on test automation development.
  • Previous experience testing financial services, banking, credit union, or other transaction-intensive applications.
  • Strong proficiency in at least one modern test automation framework, such as Playwright, Cypress, Selenium, or Appium.
  • Programming or scripting experience with TypeScript, JavaScript, Java, C#, or Python.
  • Solid API testing experience using Postman, REST Assured, or equivalent tools, with a strong understanding of REST APIs, authentication, authorization, and system integrations.
  • Experience with SQL, database validation, data integrity testing, and troubleshooting complex integration issues.
  • Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines and development tools such as Azure DevOps, GitHub Actions, or Jenkins.
  • Strong understanding of Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC), Agile methodologies, defect management, risk-based testing, and software quality engineering principles.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving abilities, with strong attention to detail and the ability to investigate complex technical issues.
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills, including the ability to work effectively with distributed engineering teams and communicate directly with client stakeholders.
  • Highly desirable experience includes working with Canadian credit unions or digital banking transformation initiatives.
  • Experience testing digital banking platforms such as VeriPark, Backbase, Central 1 Forge/MemberDirect, Intellect Design, Temenos, Lumin, eBankIT, or Finastra.
  • Previous experience with core banking system integrations, particularly Fiserv DNA or CGI RFS360.
  • Knowledge of Canadian payment capabilities, including Interac e-Transfer, bill payments, and payment processing workflows.
  • Familiarity with mortgage lending, loan origination, commercial banking, and CRM processes.
  • Experience working with Microsoft Dynamics 365, Microsoft Azure, and .NET-based enterprise environments.
  • Hands-on experience testing mobile applications across iOS and Android platforms.
  • Knowledge of performance testing tools such as JMeter, k6, or equivalent solutions.
  • Experience conducting accessibility testing and ensuring compliance with WCAG standards, particularly WCAG AA and AODA requirements.
  • Exposure to AI-generated code testing or the implementation of automated quality controls in AI-assisted development environments.
  • Experience supporting banking platform migrations, cutover activities, and post-launch production hypercare.
  • Remote-first working environment: Work remotely from anywhere in Canada.
  • Flexible employment arrangements: Full-time or contract opportunities depending on project and client requirements.
  • Meaningful projects: Contribute to major digital banking modernization and transformation initiatives for Canadian credit unions.
  • Technical collaboration: Work alongside experienced software engineers, designers, solution architects, and financial services specialists.
  • Professional development: Strengthen your expertise in test automation, digital banking technologies, enterprise integrations, and emerging engineering practices.
  • Innovation opportunities: Help shape modern quality engineering approaches, including AI-assisted software development and automated testing.
  • Technical challenges: Work on complex projects involving banking platforms, core banking integrations, payment systems, and digital customer experiences.
  • Collaborative culture: Join a remote-oriented Canadian engineering environment focused on technical excellence, knowledge sharing, and meaningful impact.

Why it works

3×

more interviews than doing it yourself with ChatGPT.

ChatGPT writes a CV and never learns what happened to it. We see every reply. For each CV we know:

  • How it was written, and how the review scored it
  • When we applied, and how long after the posting went up
  • Which posting, which company, which city
  • Who got the interview, and who heard nothing

That is how we know which CVs get called.
