Job Description: Advance Software Engineer – Data Visualization, AI & Automation

Role Summary

We are looking for an Engineer II – Data Visualization, AI & Automation to design and deliver data-driven solutions that convert complex business information into actionable insights and automate repetitive business processes.

The ideal candidate will combine strong Power BI and data visualization skills with hands-on experience in automation, Python, AI/GenAI technologies, and the Microsoft Power Platform. This role requires an engineering mindset: understanding business problems, designing scalable solutions, developing and testing them, deploying them reliably, and continuously improving them.

Key Responsibilities

Data Visualization & Business Intelligence

  • Design, develop, and maintain interactive Power BI dashboards and reports for operational and business decision-making.
  • Translate business requirements and KPIs into intuitive, actionable visualizations.
  • Build efficient semantic/data models, measures, calculated columns, and business logic using DAX.
  • Perform data transformation and preparation using Power Query / M.
  • Integrate data from sources such as SQL databases, Excel, SharePoint, APIs, and enterprise applications.
  • Apply appropriate visualization principles, drill-downs, filtering, navigation, and storytelling techniques.
  • Improve report performance, usability, maintainability, and data quality.

AI & Generative AI

  • Develop prototypes and solutions that apply AI/Generative AI to business and engineering use cases.
  • Build AI-assisted workflows for activities such as information retrieval, summarization, classification, knowledge discovery, and productivity enhancement.
  • Integrate AI capabilities with existing dashboards, applications, or automated workflows where they provide measurable value.
  • Evaluate AI-generated output for accuracy, reliability, security, and suitability for the intended business use.
  • Stay current with evolving technologies such as Microsoft Copilot, Azure AI services, Azure OpenAI, and AI-enabled Power Platform capabilities.

Automation

  • Identify opportunities to eliminate repetitive manual activities through automation.
  • Design, develop, test, document, deploy, and maintain automated workflows.
  • Build solutions using technologies such as Power Automate, Python, Power Apps, APIs, and scripting.
  • Develop reusable automation components and standardized solutions rather than one-off scripts where appropriate.
  • Troubleshoot automation failures and implement appropriate exception handling, logging, and monitoring.
  • Continuously improve existing automation solutions based on user feedback and changing requirements.

The internal automation JD similarly calls for engineers to build high-quality automation solutions, write and document code, address escalations, identify system improvements, and stay current with technology.

Data & Engineering

  • Write efficient SQL queries for extraction, transformation, validation, and analysis of data.
  • Use Python for data manipulation, automation, API integration, and AI-based solutions.
  • Understand data structures, relationships, APIs, and common integration patterns.
  • Follow software engineering practices including version control, code reviews, testing, documentation, and release management.
  • Diagnose issues across the data, application, visualization, and automation layers.
  • Design solutions with maintainability, scalability, security, and performance in mind.
  • Collaboration & Ownership
  • Work directly with business stakeholders, product owners, analysts, and engineering teams to understand problems and translate them into technical solutions.
  • Participate in solution design, estimation, development, testing, deployment, and production support.
  • Demonstrate ownership of assigned features and solutions from requirement through delivery.
  • Clearly communicate technical concepts and analytical findings to technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Create technical documentation and support knowledge sharing within the team.
  • Support junior engineers through peer reviews and technical guidance when required.

This collaborative/engineering emphasis is consistent with the internal automation profiles, which call for working with functional SMEs, supporting enhancements, troubleshooting, documenting solutions, and sharing knowledge.

Required Skills & Experience

Core technical skills

  • Strong hands-on experience with Microsoft Power BI
  • Strong understanding of data visualization and dashboard design
  • Proficiency with DAX and Power Query
  • Good working knowledge of SQL
  • Programming or scripting experience with Python
  • Experience developing workflow/process automation, preferably using Microsoft Power Automate
  • Understanding of REST APIs, JSON, and system/data integration
  • Working knowledge of AI / Generative AI concepts and practical business applications
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills

Engineering capabilities

  • Ability to convert ambiguous business requirements into structured technical solutions.
  • Ability to independently develop and troubleshoot moderately complex solutions.
  • Understanding of software development lifecycle and Agile engineering practices.
  • Experience with testing, debugging, technical documentation, and production support.

The internal automation role specifically calls out coding logic, process decomposition, exception handling, analytical ability, identifying problems, and a strong technical/development background.

Preferred / Good-to-Have Skills

  • Microsoft Fabric
  • Azure Data Factory
  • Azure AI / Azure OpenAI
  • Microsoft Copilot Studio
  • Power BI
  • Microsoft Dataverse
  • Git / Azure DevOps
  • Experience with RAG, embeddings, vector search, or LLM-based applications
  • Experience building governed enterprise BI or AI solutions

Why it works

3×

more interviews than doing it yourself with ChatGPT.

ChatGPT writes a CV and never learns what happened to it. We see every reply. For each CV we know:

  • How it was written, and how the review scored it
  • When we applied, and how long after the posting went up
  • Which posting, which company, which city
  • Who got the interview, and who heard nothing

That is how we know which CVs get called.
