As a senior member of the Chemistries and Supplies Division leadership team, this individual will partner closely with business, marketing, commercial, operations, quality, regulatory, legal, and corporate technology leaders. The Vice President will help shape portfolio strategy, investment priorities, talent strategy, and long-range growth plans for one of Agilent’s most important recurring-revenue franchises.

The successful candidate must be a highly credible scientific leader, with a proven track record of innovation in chromatography science, an experienced global leader, and a disciplined portfolio manager with a demonstrated ability to turn customer insight and technological opportunity into sustained bus

This role will report directly to the Vice President and General Manager, Chemistries and Supplies Division, with strong strategic alignment to Agilent’s Chief Technology Officer and regular engagement with senior leadership.

Key Responsibilities

The CSD Vice President of R&D will:

  • Establish a multi-year innovation strategy and technology roadmaps for the portfolio.
  • Own the quality, health, value, and execution of the new-product-development pipeline.
  • Direct investment across breakthrough innovation, platform development, and product extensions.
  • Ensure strong integration among research, product development, manufacturing science, applications, quality, and commercialization.
  • Build the scientific capabilities, leadership capacity, organizational culture, and external networks required for long-term market leadership.
  • Contribute actively to the strategy, operating priorities, and performance of the Chemistries and Supplies Division as a member of its senior leadership team.
  • Translate divisional growth objectives into a focused and differentiated R&D strategy for the Chemistries and Supplies portfolio that delivers meaningful differentiation.
  • Partner with business and functional leaders to assess market attractiveness, competitive differentiation, technical feasibility, investment requirements, risk, and expected financial return.
  • Participate in annual operating planning, long-range strategic planning, portfolio reviews, capital allocation, workforce planning, and business-performance management.
  • Communicate R&D priorities, progress, risks, and investment choices clearly to executive stakeholders.
  • Balance the needs of the current business with the investments required to create future technology platforms and sources of growth.
  • Bring an enterprise perspective to decisions, optimizing for Agilent and its customers rather than for an individual function, technology, site, or product line.
  • Ensure that technology investments are linked to clearly defined customer needs, differentiated value propositions, and commercially attractive market opportunities and then ensure that customer insight is incorporated early and continuously throughout research, development, validation, and commercialization lifecycle.
  • Build strong connections among R&D scientists, application experts, product managers, commercial teams, key opinion leaders, and strategic customers.
  • Create disciplined mechanisms for evaluating emerging technologies and deciding when to build internally, partner externally, license, or acquire.
  • Establish mechanisms to learn systematically from field performance, technical support, customer complaints, competitive evaluations, and application data.
  • Measure innovation effectiveness through leading and lagging indicators, including portfolio health, milestone performance, cycle time, launch quality, adoption, revenue, margin contribution, and return on R&D investment.
  • Develop an intellectual-property strategy aligned with technology roadmaps, portfolio priorities, and competitive differentiation.
  • Recruit, develop, engage, and retain outstanding scientific, technical, and leadership talent in order to build a strong succession pipeline for critical technical and people-leadership roles.

Qualifications

Experience

  • A minimum of 15 years of progressive leadership experience in R&D, technology and/or product development, or a closely related function.
  • Experience managing a portfolio that includes research, new product development, platform development, lifecycle programs, and technology-risk reduction.

Skills & Competencies

  • Demonstrated success leading a sizable, global, multidisciplinary R&D organization through other senior leaders and implementing a strong talent development program.
  • Proven record of developing and commercializing differentiated products or technology platforms that delivered measurable customer and business value.
  • Demonstrated ability to make resource and investment tradeoffs across projects with different time horizons, risk profiles, and commercial potential.
  • Strong executive communication skills and the ability to influence senior leaders, technical experts, customers, and external partners.

Why it works

3×

more interviews than doing it yourself with ChatGPT.

ChatGPT writes a CV and never learns what happened to it. We see every reply. For each CV we know:

  • How it was written, and how the review scored it
  • When we applied, and how long after the posting went up
  • Which posting, which company, which city
  • Who got the interview, and who heard nothing

That is how we know which CVs get called.
