Job Description Summary:

The Department of Health Sciences at William & Mary, a public university of the Commonwealth of Virginia, invites applications for a tenured position in Public Health at the rank of Associate or Full Professor, with an appointment beginning August 10, 2027. We seek candidates with research and teaching expertise in one or more of the following areas: biostatistics, health policy, or social and behavioral sciences. The successful applicant will be prepared to teach introductory public health courses, as well as introductory and upper-level courses in their area(s) of expertise. We seek a candidate whose teaching and research complement the strengths of the current public health faculty and contribute to or expand the department’s existing expertise, particularly in U.S. public health.

Duties include research, teaching, and service to the Department and University. The applicant is expected to establish and maintain a vibrant externally funded research program that inspires a highly motivated undergraduate student body. Teaching expectation is 2 courses per semester. Successful applicants must possess the skills to teach general public health courses and other lecture and seminar-style courses, as well as contribute to mentored student research and/or experiential learning in public health.

Required Qualifications:

• Applicants must hold a Ph.D. or a terminal degree in Public Health or a related field at the time the appointment begins (August 10, 2027);
• Applicants must have completed 18 graduate semester hours in the discipline they will be hired to teach.
• An established record of scholarly achievement in Biostatistics, Health Policy, or Social and Behavioral Sciences, consistent with appointment at the rank of Associate Professor or Full Professor and as demonstrated through a strong publication record and contributions to the field.
• Evidence of the ability to establish and/or maintain a vibrant externally funded research program in Biostatistics, Health Policy, or Social and Behavioral Sciences.
• Demonstrated experience teaching courses in U.S. public health in both lecture and seminar formats.
• Demonstrated experience contributing to mentored student research and/or experiential learning in U.S. public health.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Demonstrated experience directly mentoring undergraduate students in research, including supporting undergraduate research projects through completion.
• Evidence of teaching expertise in one or more departmental priority areas: biostatistics, health policy, or social and behavioral sciences;
• Demonstrated leadership in academic settings and/or Public Health practice.

Conditions of Employment:

• This position may require additional hours beyond the typical work week, including occasional overnight and weekend work as needed to meet the business needs of the operation.
