The posting

At Air Products, we reimagine what’s possible. By tapping into the motivation of our people and our collective experience, we create the ideas and innovations that drive us forward. When we come together – where every voice is heard and everyone knows they belong and matter – we create solutions that launch people into space, support lifesaving care in hospitals, and enable the construction of groundbreaking, world scale production facilities.

Reimagine What’s Possible

The Tooling Supervisor has responsibility for all aspects of tooling support for spinning production operations at the St. Louis Membrane Solutions manufacturing facility

Our Membrane Solutions facility assembles, tests, and ships air separation modules ranging from 1" to 8" in diameter for Aerospace (OBIGGS), Nitrogen, Dehydration, and Process gas applications. Assembly is the final production step before product reaches the customer, and quality escapes carry direct customer, contractual, and safety consequences.

Our ideal candidate has excellent leadership abilities coupled with a mechanical aptitude, excellent organizational, planning, interpersonal, communication, and decision-making skills.

In this role you will direct a team of approximately 6-10 tooling technicians and working team leads across all shifts (Yellow/Blue day rotations and Nights), with accountabilities for safety, quality, tooling readiness, preventive maintenance, training, and employee development.

The primary function of the tooling team is to fully support spinning production by ensuring that all tooling required for spinning operations is maintained in a ready-state condition. This includes spinning tooling such as winders, jets, and pumps.

What's In It for You:

At Air Products we foster a culture of inclusion where every voice is heard, and everyone feels they belong and matter. Additionally, we offer competitive pay and great benefits for our employees. Check out some of our benefits below!

  • Affordable Medical, Dental and Vision Insurance (day 1 of employment)
  • 401k with 100% vested company core and match
  • Paid Vacation, holidays + sick time
  • Paid Parental leave (Up to 4 weeks for both parents)
  • Backup Child and Adult Care benefit
  • Adoption assistance
  • Flexible spending accounts (medical, dependent daycare)
  • Life Insurance (AD&D- Paid for by Air Products), Supplemental AD&D
  • Legal Plan & Identity theft coverage
  • EAP (Employee Assistance Program)
  • Many more supplemental benefits available

NATURE AND SCOPE

Production support function with site-wide spinning impact. Tooling is a support function for the spinning operations team; however, tooling readiness directly impacts spinning line uptime, changeover speed, and fiber quality across all spinning areas. When tooling is not in a ready-state condition, production stops.

24/7 shift coverage. The Tooling Supervisor manages tooling technicians across Yellow, Blue, and Night shifts to provide continuous tooling support to match the 24-hour spinning production cycle. The incumbent must coordinate work assignments, maintenance scheduling, and tooling priorities across all shifts.

Technical specialization. The role requires deep knowledge of spinning tooling systems (winders, jets, pumps) and the maintenance, calibration, and cleaning processes that keep them operational. The incumbent is responsible for sustaining a maintenance program, driving toward reliability excellence, aiding in tool design and process improvement, and developing quick-change options for production changeovers.

Cross-functional interface. The role requires interfacing with spinning operations, maintenance, and engineering teams to ensure tooling availability aligns with production schedules and priorities. The supervisor attends engineering and management meetings and provides necessary input and guidance on tooling readiness, reliability, and improvement opportunities.

Required Skills / Abilities:

  • Excellent face-to-face and written communication skills (Candidate must communicate effectively with operators, maintenance personnel, technical support personnel, management, and all internal and external stakeholders)
  • Excellent troubleshooting skills.
  • A keen drive to improve operational execution and maintain high work standards.
  • Excellent attention to detail and organizational abilities.
  • A safety focus, with a full understanding of the applicability of Government EHS regulations and the Company’s Global EHS policies and procedures to the facility and workers.
  • Knowledge of quality systems and the requirements of ISO 9001–2015 and how they apply to production processes is preferred but is not required.

· A continuous improvement mindset with familiarity in Lean, Root Cause Analysis, and other CI tools is required.

· Strong mechanical aptitude with hands-on knowledge of tooling fabrication, maintenance, and calibration

· Comfortable analyzing, interpreting, and communicating data and trends

· Excellent problem-solving skills with the ability to identify, analyze, and resolve tooling-related process conditions

Key Job Responsibilities:

Ensure the safety of all tooling personnel across all shifts by demonstrating leadership in the Basic Safety Process (BSP), enforcing EHS standards, leading safety communications, and driving continuous improvement toward zero-injury targets.

Maintain all spinning tooling in a ready-state condition by ensuring winders, jets, pumps, and related tooling are maintained, calibrated, and available to support spinning production schedules across all shifts and minimizing unplanned downtime due to equipment failures.

Sustain and improve the preventive maintenance tooling program by driving toward reliability excellence, developing and implementing tool recycle and maintenance processes, and tracking tooling performance to identify reliability trends and improvement opportunities.

Drive tooling process improvement by aiding in tool design and reliability improvements, developing quick-change options for production changeovers, and identifying, analyzing, and resolving tooling-related process conditions that impact spinning production or workflow.

Develop and build capability in the tooling team by setting performance expectations and coaching to get results, developing working team leads into effective frontline leaders, supporting onboarding and skills development, consistently applying plant policies, and building a culture of accountability and continuous learning.

Coordinate tooling support across all shifts and spinning areas by managing work assignments, preventive maintenance scheduling, and tooling priorities across Yellow, Blue, and Night shifts to ensure continuous tooling availability aligned with spinning production needs.

Develop, implement, and maintain overall tooling management organization by establishing standard work practices, documentation, and inventory management for the tooling function.

Drive compliance with quality management systems by ensuring tooling maintenance and calibration meet AS9100 and ISO 9001 requirements and support audit readiness through consistent documentation practices.

Minimum Hiring Requirements:

  • Excellent people skills and a passion for excellence are required.
  • A minimum of 5 years of manufacturing experience with demonstrated supervisory or team lead experience is required.
  • An Associates degree in a related technical industry is preferred but is not required.
  • A high school diploma or GED is required.
  • A valid driver’s license and a good driving record are required.
  • SAP experience is preferred but is not required.
  • Knowledge of preventive maintenance programs and reliability practices is preferred but is not required.

Why it works

3×

more interviews than doing it yourself with ChatGPT.

ChatGPT writes a CV and never learns what happened to it. We see every reply. For each CV we know:

  • How it was written, and how the review scored it
  • When we applied, and how long after the posting went up
  • Which posting, which company, which city
  • Who got the interview, and who heard nothing

That is how we know which CVs get called.
