The posting

Must be able to work 4:30pm – 1:30am along with any required overtime which may include weekends. Night shift premium offered ($2/hr).   Summary: The Fitter is responsible for assembling structural frameworks and housings from raw material. They prepare and fabricate metal components for the welding process.   Duties and Responsibilities: 

Verify conformance of workpieces to specifications, using squares, rulers, and measuring tapes. Align and fit parts according to specifications, using jacks, turnbuckles, wedges, drift pins, pry bars, and hammers. Set up and operate fabricating machines, such as brakes, rolls, shears, flame cutters, grinders, and drill presses, to bend, cut, form, punch, drill, or otherwise form and assemble metal components. Position or tighten braces, jacks, clamps, ropes, or bolt straps, or bolt parts in position for welding or riveting. Chip or grind off excess weld, slag, or spatter using hand scrapers, portable grinders, or arc-cutting equipment. Review any parts received from kitting area and compare the parts to the print. Fabricating and revising fixtures, jigs, and gauges. Operate and/or use forklifts, cranes, hoists, slings, grinders, cutting torches, hand tools, drills, punches, and instruments of measurements. Perform other duties as assigned.

  Education and Work Experience:

Associates or Technical School. Minimum of one-year of related experience and/or training.

  Work Authorization/Security Clearance Requirements:

This position may require a government security clearance.

Can handle frequent interruptions and can multi-task. Analyzes and diagnoses problems and works independently to solve them. Inspects equipment, structures, or materials to identify the cause of errors or other problems or defects. Works collaboratively and build strategic relations with colleagues, coworkers, and contractors. Works effectively with different levels of management, team members and customers. Ability to earn trust, maintain positive and professional relationships, and contribute to a culture of inclusion.

Work Hours:

Standard work schedule, overtime may be necessary for meeting deadlines, required travel, and emergent conditions.

Travel Requirements:

This position may involve travel up to 10% of the time.

  Physical Demands: The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.

Medium work that includes moving objects up to 50 pounds.      Ascending or descending ladders, stairs, scaffolding, ramps, poles and the like, using feet and legs and/or hands and arms. Moving about on foot to accomplish tasks, particularly for long distances or moving from one work site to another. Creates a work environment that promotes and encourages team members’ participation to attain common and individual objectives. Operate a motor vehicle, forklift, and/or other heavy equipment. Picking, pinching, typing or otherwise working, primarily with fingers rather than with whole hand or arm as in handling. Prolonged periods working on feet, using tools, and performing repetitive actions that entail frequent bending and stooping. Read instructions, operate machines, and inspect parts produced. Repeating motions that may include the wrists, hands and/or fingers.      Visual inspection involving small defects, small parts, and operation of machines.
